Benefits of the canadian food guide? What are the benefits of following the canadian food guide in your everyday life?
is the canadian food guide really all that healthy? so i have to measure my food, and supposedly it's the healthy amount, but i've always wondered, are the portions really that healthy if i am quite often not full from them?
Is the Canadian or US food guide really healthiest? I looked at the Canadian one today and was surprised that they recommend 6-7 servings of grain and only 2 of meat or alternatives. I thought we were supposed to cut back on carbs? So many people say canned fruit is no good, yogurt has too much sugar and sea salt is the way to go. I don't like plain yogurt I find canned fruit to be the most convienent when busy and I dont' have a health food store here for sea salt. All these things that health people say make me think 'Why try...' they make it so complicated. They make it sound like the foods I thought were healthy, like fruit cups and yogurt are just as bad as chocolate. So is the food guide really healthy? Also, what is popcorn... a grain?
What percentage of canadians dont really know the food guide? Ive been trying to find a number but i cant find one.
what are Canadians Food Guides basic group? The basic food that they eat? most especially to family meal and to the elderly people in home care.
Food Guide? ...what about kids <2yo? My son is 15mths old, and I want to make sure he eats properly and gets everything he needs. Is there a Canadian or American food guide for young toddlers? I live in Canada, and The New Canada's Food Guide is only for people over the age of 2yrs. Is there a plan or guide to help determine how much someone should eat? and of what? my son is 32lbs 3ft tall and 15.5mths old. so he doesn't eat as much as the average kid his age, because he's such a big boy.
Food from each food group area with poor food choice alternative (ASAP)? Ok well I got this project i done all the questions but this one and its due tomo, easy 10 points for anyone who knows this hopefully simple question, -Comapre one food from each food group area with a poor food choice alternative. this is by Canadian food guide the groups are: Vegetables and fruit, grain products, milk and alternatives, meat and alternatives.
Traditional Canadian Food? We each have to do a report on a country. Lucky me, I got Canada. It's not that I don't like Canada. I actually love Canada. The problem is that we have to bring a traditional food for that country. Is there really a significant difference in "American" food and "Canadian" food? What are some traditional Canadian foods? But there are some guide lines.... ~The food has to be~ *Relatively easy to make *Doesn't have to be refrigerated [school doesn't have fridge for student use only in Home ec] *Has to be kinda small [I have to make like 30 of them for the class ^_^]
Do You REALLY Drink Six Glasses Of Water Every Day? I would just like to know. The Canadian food guide says you should drink 7 or 6 glasses of water daily. I don't even drink 2. LOL. So i was juss curious to know if you guys do. Be honest. There's no reason to lie.
What can make me the healthiest person, food wise? If your about to say NO SUGAR ORGANIC EVERYTHING NO SALAD DRESSING!!! Then forget it, even thought its healthy. I mean something along the lines of the Canadian Food Guide or something. Just a guide to helping me get all the proteins, lips, carbs and other things I need in my body. Also, if you dont want to do that. Can you give me an idealistic day like this: Breakfast: tea no sugar bread with jam lunch cookies snack juice lettuce something like that. please include breakfast, lunch, supper, 2snack times and one midnight night snack.
Canada's Food guide.? How many Canadian's actually follow the criteria for eating healthy with Canada's food guide? I'm doing a project so i need it for information.
Is it possible to open small food outlet in Canadian market? It is difficult to get job in Mississaug and Toronto. Is it possible to open a small snack counter as I am too ex[pert in making cold coffee with ice cream/ Ice cream soda/Milk shakes/vegetable sandwiches and patties/Rice indiffernet style. do you think it will sell in Calgary or Mississauga. How much minimum money one needs to open it / Pls guide and advise
Are vegetables healthier than fruits? On the Canadian Food Guide, vegetables are put first because most people don't eat enough veggies, but get enough fruits. Are vegetables really healthier? I know that a balanced lifestyle should have both vegetables and fruits, but if you had to survive on only one alone, would vegetables or fruits be healthier?
Dr. Bernstain's Diet? does his diet follow the canadian food guide , how and why?
Nutrition Question? I've decided to start paying more attention to my daily intake of food, and to make sure I do eat the daily recomneded for all food groups as stated by the Canadian Food Guide. So, it recomends 7-8 servings of vegetables and fruits a day for 19-50 year old women, and for the purpose of this question, I'll use that. My question is kinda a two-parter: 1. Do I need to eat a variety of fruits or vegetables in order to satisfy the daily intake, or can I eat like, 4 servings of carrots spread out through the day and have another 3-4 of another vegetable or fruit? 2. As well, is there any benefit to spreading the servings throughout the day instead of, say, eating 2 or 3 servings of vegetables in one sitting? Thanks! I hope I wasn't too confusing.
Alternative to cooking with oil? As mentioned in another health-related question, I'm getting my eating habits on track and making sure I get my daily amounts as listed by the Canadian Food Guide for 19-year-old females. So, my mother has bought a variety of frozen vegetable bags, since it's fast, easy, and healthy. One of the packages that was bought is a stir-fry, and it tells you for every two-cups of vegetables you need to cook with one-cup of oil (doesn't say what type, so I used vegetable.) I was told that cooking with oil should be kept to a minimum, but I wouldn't mind deleting that step all together. Is there a healthier alternative to using oil while cooking? Thanks!
What could be wrong with me? I dont know what this is. Its kind of hard to explain. This has never happend before. It feels like my stomach muscles are pulling together. Could it be growing pains. I'm not sure. I'm thirteen. and im a girl. I'm also suppost to get my period in three or four days. but it cant be a menstral cramp because I have had my period since i was eleven and I only gets cramps after my period finishes. And it feels totally different. Can anyone tell me what is going on with me? And it cant be because i'm not eating right or not excercising. Acutally I'm on the swim team, cheerleading squad, and soccer team at my private school. I excersice daily and I follow the Canadian food guide to make sure I'm eating healthy.
Do you trust "medications" like Slimquick? I am 21 years old, and 5'1inches. I am wanting to lose a large amount of weight before my friend's wedding in July 2009. (So, roughly a year and a half..) I drink ~3bottles of water a day and have been following the Canadian food guide as far as nutrition requirements go. I also goto a local gym and do about 20 minutes of cardio, 10 minutes on a rower machine,a and another 5 on an eliptical. I also lift 5lb weights off and on throughout the day. I've been doing all of this for about a month and haven't lost a thing. I am wondering if drugs like Slimquick or Hoodia work, or if I should avoid them. I know you can get stuff perscribed to you by your doctor, but I think thats only if you have thyroid problems, which I don't. I have been overweight since I was 8 years old and am really sick of it. HELP!! :)
I Feel Faint and only Bananas help me. Is Potassium the Problem? I can remember as far back as my early 20's when it happened the 1st time. I eat ALMOST everything from the Canadian Food Guide and still at least 2 times a week. It starts with a light headed feeling. It then makes my vision slightly burly. Then the headache moves in with the shakes. The ONLY thing that makes this all go away and make it a bad dream is a banana. Does anybody have any thoughts? Thank you for reading and for your time. Has anyone successfully achieved a ripped 6-pack? I have been working out for about a year now, and I was at an average weight when I started. I now weight 155-160lbs and am 6' My workout is focused around bench press, jerk and life, and auxiliary workouts. In addition, I have a large focus on sit ups, crunches (with weights) and other ab exercises. I usually run on the treadmill for a bout 15 minutes, or go outside and jog 15-20 minutes. I do this about 3-4 times a week. I have visible ab muscles, but a 6-pack isn't well defined. I try to follow the Canadian food guide every day, but add a bit more protein (and I usually don't make it to 8 servings of vegetables, i usually have 6-7). What workout+diet did you use to obtain a 6-pack?

Interval training on an elliptical; Am I doing it right? I use an ellipitcal machine to lose weight. Before doing 45 minutes on an elliptical would give me moderate results losing weight gradually. My routing consists of: @ 8 minutes of above moderate speed, maybe 85 to 90 rpm, switch to above 100 to 110 rpm for 2 minutes straight (going full pace). Then, my rpm would drop to about 70 to 80 rpm until the 18 minute mark. Then for another 2 minutes, I would switch and go full pace, about 100 to 110 rpm. I would repeat it again at the 28 minute mark. At 38 minutes, while at 70 to 80 rpm, I would switch to full pace for 4 minutes. That would end at 42 minutes. Then until 45 minutes I would go back to 70 to 80 rpm. It actually worked and I could drop like 10 to 15 pounds in maybe a few months; like 1 or 2 and a bit. I stopped going in Sept 2009 because of school. When the semester was over, I had gained almost 10 pounds so I went back to my routine to lose weight. What had happened was that my routine was not effective anymore. But the only thing wrong about my routine, or interval training was that I cut down on eating. And it seemed to work, but I've been told that I have to eat 3 meals a day. I was stubborn. Now, after the winter 2010 semester, I'm back to my routine at the gym, adding almost another 10 pounds, and the original routine still did not kick back in and work. I have now increased my workouts to 1 hour. At 8, 18, and 28 minute marks, I would do my 2 minutes of full pace high energy interval. At the 38 minute mark, I would do a 4 minute high pace interval at 100 to 110 rpm. At 48, and 58 minutes, I would do my 2 minute high pace interval at 100 to 110 rpm. I get a good sweat. My tshirt is soaked. I added wearing a sweater under my tshirt and my sweat soaks through the sweater and soaks my tshirt. I even started eating 3 meals a day because I finally listened to someone who gave me the same advice from before but now I have learned it keeps your metabolism up which helps lose weight. So, it's been about almost 2 weeks of going to the gym 3 to 4 times a week and eating regulary, I've dropped 2 pounds, but it was probably from before I started eating regulary when I had been exercising for almost 2 months. The progress is really slow, and if it were before I went to school, I would have at least lost 5 to 7 pounds already. But with my new eating schedule, I've been maintaining my weight, not gaining or not losing. Before Sept 2009, my lowest was 131 pounds. After the Sept semester I was at 139 pounds. Almost at the end of the winter semester, which during that semester I added a few sessions at the gym maybe a few times a month, I was still at 140 pounds. When the semester ended and I started working out regularly, I went up, the highest at 149.8 pounds and that was only a few weeks before I weight myself at 139 pounds. I am only 5'3 and I now weigh and have maintained the weight for about a week or so at 147 pounds. Is my interval training wrong? I know I have to watch my calorie intake, and I try my best, but I don't know much about calories and all the canadian health food guide stuff. If anyone can give me some advice to lose weight faster, I would greatly appreciate it. If I start weight training, and adding it to my routine, I'm pretty sure I would gain more weight because that's what happened before. Sometimes I add 10 minutes of abs workout or 10 minutes of punching the heavy bag. I hope that all and I haven't forgot anything to say. I know this is long, and I thank you for taking the time for reading it and I would greatly appreciate it if you can give some input. Thanks. sorry i forgot to add, I'm a 31 male.
some good books on surviving in the wild? Like Hatchet, or My side of the Mountain. Basically I am looking for books surviving in a forest and having to fish and find roots for food, etc. I have been watching Man vs. Wild and enjoyed the episode in the Canadian woods. Also, if you have instructional books (like not a story, more like a guide and tips on how to survive) that would be great too. Thanks!
Confusion over Vitamin D production...? A posted a question much earlier about how do vegans in northernly climates get enough vitamin D? Almost all answers assumed I don't know about norther climates and there is enough sunshine in northern climates all year long to produce vitamin D. I'm Canadian. Length of days through out the year, intensity of sunshine and amount of skin exposed is not always enough for sufficient vitamin D production. Season, geographic latitude, time of day, cloud cover, smog, and sunscreen affect UV ray exposure and vitamin D synthesis. Sunlight exposure from November through February in Boston is insufficient to produce significant vitamin D synthesis in the skin. http://dietary-supplements.info.nih.gov/factsheets/vitamind.asp In Canada, vitamin D synthesis in the skin is absent during the winter months (October to March), http://www.hc-sc.gc.ca/fn-an/food-guide-aliment/context/evid-fond/vita_d_e.html How do vegans in northern climates get enough vitamin D without suppl from animal sources? Thanks Katie! That site is very good! I'm glad to know that there are non-animal source supplements for vegans in northern climates who might need it. Once I found out how much vitamin D comes from pig hide, then started to look at everything that is fortified with vitamin D in grocery stores (at least here) it made me wonder... But obviously vegans can be healthy here, so I interested to know how they did it! Thanks again!
I dropped my Blood Sugar From a 30+ (540 mg/Dl to 5.5 (99 mg/Dl) in two weeks. Is this normal? My units are in Canadian and American. Under 7 (126 mg/Dl) is considered a target value for diabetics. I accomplished it by cutting almost all carbs and taking 1500 mg of Metformin and a single pill of Januvia, as well as some extra walking for exercise. For 7+ years my fasting glucose was 5.9 (106.2 mg/Dl) I believe a severely stressful incident that nearly caused a nervous breakdown triggered the diabetes. My reading from the lab was 22 (396 mg/DL) I was probably walking around for more than a year with glucose over 30 (540 mg/Dl). When I first started monitoring my glucose was to high to measure. The limit on high measurement was 27.8 (500.4 mg/Dl) The doctors recommend that I follow the GOVERNMENT food guide but my diet is lean protein (chicken and fish/tuna) and low carb veggies. A medical person said that was unlikely since at that high level I wouldn't be able to function. But some how I still managed to everything but I had no energy in the evening since I expended it at my job. They were relieved to find out it was diabetes!?!? since they suspected substance abuse - rampant in my profession My blood pressure today is 109/74 (optimal) Any ideas or advice? Needless to say I wont be contributing to any retirement anymore plans since I probably won't live past 55 (my gut feeling). Thanks for reading and my support and best wishes to you all. HK.
Interesting encounters as a tourist in a foreign country or w/ tourists? Ever have any of these issues arise? Seeking to help [Britains] sometimes snarky citizens offer a warmer welcome, the tourism bureau has updated its advice for anyone likely to work with travellers arriving from overseas — from hotel staff to taxi drivers. New guidelines from VisitBritain ahead of the 2012 London Olympics warn that: - Canadians tend to be offended when they are when mistaken for Americans. - Hold off from hugging an Indian, the guide advises, and don't be alarmed if the French are rude. -Don't go around asking Brazilians personal questions and never be bossy with visitors from the Middle East. "VisitBritain said research it had conducted found tourists believe Britons are honest and efficient — but not the most pleasant. Britain is ranked 14th out of 50 in the Anholt-GfK Roper Nation Brands Index on the quality of welcome offered to visitors, the tourism agency said. The frank etiquette tips were written by agency staff about their own native countries. - Polish tourists are likely to be hurt by stereotypes that imply they drink excessively, while the - - French are notoriously picky in restaurants." eta: [I know that's true and what makes them the most disliked tourists in all of Europe - maybe the whole world. They don't want to eat anything, and they are notorious for being rude. I would like to add "rip off" artist (some, obviously not all). If you're a tourist they will change you a much higher cab fare than they will one of their own. Let's hope they have meters in their cabs now.] More: - U.K. workers are told to brush off common Argentine jokes about a person's clothing or weight. - Belgians take offense at people snapping their fingers. - Australians are fond of coarse language. - Japanese people consider prolonged eye contact impolite and smile to express a range of emotions — not simply to show happiness. Tourism workers are ADVISED TO SHOW EXTRA PATIENCE when dealing with: *Indians: impatient, demanding, brusque. Indians also don't like being touched by strangers and may be suspicious about the quality of British food, the guide said, without noting the latter might be a common concern. *United Arab Emirates: Travellers from the Middle East are likely to be demanding with staff and "are not used to being told what they can't do," the guide warns. *Guests from China and Hong Kong may find winking or pointing with an index finger rude, while "mentioning failure, poverty or death risks offense," the advice claims. Chinese visitors may be unimpressed by landmarks just a few hundred years old, tourism staff are told. *Tourism workers are advised against discussing poverty, immigration, earthquakes or the Mexican-American war with visitors from Mexico And Americans? They can appear "informal to the point of being very direct or even rude" and won't ever hesitate about complaining, the guide says. So what do you think? Comments? I forgot one that I had read about elswhere: don't ask Middle Eastern men about how wives. This is a serious social faux pas. If you must make conversation, its best to ask about male children. Reminds me of an old joke. What's the definition of heaven? A French cook, an English cop, and a German mechanic. What's the definition of hell? A French mechanic, a German cop and an English cook. Rachel, I'm not saying each and every French person is rude. I also had good experiences while there. But on the whole... brace yourself. They'll never stop moaning about the food, wait for it. The "hugging Indians" thing is pretty inane, I do sooo agree. I suggest this "Information Packet" is in need of a makeover.
Social Studies Help Please? Ok so i have to do a wax museum speech (being Sacajawea) and i need to make my speech longer. It is due on friday and i have done a lot or research and i need some more interesting facts about her life to but in my speech. Please help? This is what i have so far. I was born in 1784 in Salmon, Idaho and was born into the Shoshoni Tribe. My name means “boat launcher” or “bird woman.” Around twelve years of age I was captured by Hidatsa Indians. I was then sold to a French-Canadian trapper named Toussaint Charbonneau who made me one of his wives. My husband and I lived in the upper Missouri river area which is now North Dakota. In 1804 the Lewis and Clark expedition had camped for the winter at Fort Mandan. Charbonneau was also spending the winter there with me while I was pregnant with my son. My husband was hired to guide Lewis and Clark in the expedition because of his knowledge of the country. He was instructed to bring my baby and I. We were brought along on the expedition because I was a peace symbol. A group traveling with a woman and child were treated with less suspicion than a group of men alone. I was helpful in many ways I found edible plants and was good at telling direction. I was a good translator and was familiar with more than one Indian tribe. Once I was on a capsized boat I was able to save some cargo, including important documents and supplies. I also knew the land very well. My knowledge of the terrain and mountain passes saved weeks of travel time. My ability to speak with native tribes allowed the expedition to keep horses and food along the way. I gave birth to Jean Baptiste on February 11, 1805 at Fort Mandan. Lewis and Clark took me back to the Shoshoni tribe of my childhood. We ran into Shoshoni Indians and they were about to attack but then realized that I was united with my long-lost brother who was one of the Shoshoni chiefs. During the journey Clark became fond of Jean and nicknamed him Pomp or Pompey. He even offered education for him. After I died at Fort Lisa in 1812 at the age of twenty eight of putrid fever, Clark quickly took custody of Jean and raised him in St.Louis.

History Eassy On World War II? Okay. I need someone's help..like REAL bad. My essay is HORRIBLY structured. and I need a lot of help. please.. 20 Years after “The War to End All Wars” has ended, (Which was hardly the case), World War II Emerged. From 1939 – 1945, Canada had contributed to the successful outcome of the war, from Canada’s Home Front, to the major battles of Italian Champaign, Dieppe and Day of Deliverance. Canada has sacrificed thousands, and helped millions, to take on Germany and Adolf Hitler, thus ending the tragic World War II. Canada had truly participated fully in the winning outcome of World War II. Not only the government policies of Canada had taken a share of the won, but to the home front as well, the women who took on men’s roles had changed lifestyles, children even taking on responsibilities. We have shown great intelligent by Canada providing us at Training camps for all nations for example, Britain and America in Oshawa Ontario, including Camp X and The British PM Muelle Chamberlain. With the soldiers we have lost in the Battles of Italian Champaign, and D-Day, no nation should ever say that we did not do as much effort as any other nation in World War II. Throughout World War II, women and children has made a Major effort to help with the war going on (The Home Font). Naturally, women had played an important role in the war. In fact Government Policies also had them start on everything. Not only did women support the injured soldiers of ours, and other nations. Women had become nurses, serving behind the front lines, and they had PUSHED, there way to be accepted in the military service. By the end of the war, Canadian women in uniform numbered 50 000, and another 4 500 women were in medical services. They were never sent in front line combat, in fact they did essential work, working as radio operators and guiding back airplanes and ships form battle missions. Some had even become welders, armourers, or worker in armed forces headquarters. Women took over farms, and helped keep farm alive, in business, at the same time making crops and food to contribute the food to the war for armies. Women had taken on men roles, and proving themselves. Without “Women’s Roles” there would not be surviving soldiers from serious injuries. Government policies has asked for women, children, and other elderly that could not go fight in the war to save food, and save anything to save for the war. The community has taken on different numbers of jobs to specify support the war, Canada had become an industrial power. During World War II, the government introduced Victory Bonds, the money going straight to the war economy, these victory bonds were Highly encouraged. Training in secretly is what “Camp X” was for, and learning how to fly and become a pilot, you have to go to the British PM Muelle Chamberlain. Camp X was established Saturday December 6, 1941, training people from different nations in North America. It was built on the shores of Lake Superior to train allied agents in the technique of secret war fair. Camp X was run by British officers, and a Canadian director thus also training women, and men. If fact we had also trained the French Resistance workers in spying, weaponry, and sabotage. Yugoslavia were sent into their homeland, where they destroyed trains, roads, and major things. Camp X was successful, and sad to have saved a large number of lives. Other American, Britain, and Canadians who have not gone to ether Camp X or the war was sent to “British PM Muelle Chamberlain”. British PM Muelle Chamberlain had trained 135, 000 pilots from 40 different allied nations to learn to fly. We had supplied not only our military, but other nations also in the Training Camp. Us supplying 80.64% of the recruits. Australia 11.28% and New Zealand 8.08%. Canada has a perfect environment, and space for this training camp. Without the 2 Training Camps, most soldiers would have been dead. Camp X had save many soldiers from facing a horrific death. The Italian Campaign was Canada’s first major ground participation in the Second World War in Europe and cost 25,264 casualties, 5,900 of them fatal, over its course which, at its highest peak, saw over 76,000 Canadians serving in Italy. Not only was this one of the major battles, Canada had played a role in Day of Deliverance. (D-Day). A year before the D-Day landings in Normandy, there were the Allied invasions Italy. Canada played a major role in the Allies' first breach of Hitler's "Fortress Europe" in 1943 and 1944. Canadian soldiers defeated Hitler’s German Army but had a price to pay. The Italian Campaign, a shocking battle that cost roughly about 6,000 Canadian lives. July 10, 1943 though a bad stormy weather, the biggest invasion in history, had arrive the boot of Italy. As we see in this Canadian Army Newsreel, the Allies reach the shores of Sicily at dawn, and Canadians walk ashore unopposed. Allies had pushed there way into Hitler’s Fortresses. So fourth, a (I don't even have a concluding paragraph :( ...BECAUSE I DON"T KNOW HOW OT WRITE ONE!

Obviously NOT as displayed by a perceived suspicion that all real Australians not only hate Aboriginal people but also hate the rest of the world & especially US & Canadian citizens! In the course of 9 years, the factors of open mindedness & hopefulness have succumbed to 'shock & awe', jet lag, disbelief, astonishment, anxiety, excessive anger, continuous vents & finally, continuous boycotts while placing 'For Sale' all of our Australian interests, mostly thanks to the failure to acquire any food services, any telecommunication services & especially television mismanagement of effective programing. The failure to produce any 'on time' tv matches the failure to find any two clocks in the country to coincide with HWW or any television electronic program guides. The future of Australian TV MAY continue but certainly without OUR support of any of the retarded sponsors, retarded broadcasters or retarded viewers.! Opps, should have been: 'Inept' Broadcasters, 'Dysfunctional' Sponsors & retarded viewers. The point of never being PUNCTUAL on the EPGs is the major source of discontentment!
Would Canadians watch this American movie? The movie will be called "It's not that cold here, really." and it will be an American comedy produced by ME! The movie will be about a dumb American gangster from New Jersey who decides to leave his gang town and visit a more peaceful place called....Canada. He decides to travel to Toronto in mid-July and his family talks him out of it telling him "it's VERY COLD in Canada, it's a freezing cold country!" So he rebelliously drives to New York/Ontario border with 16 North Face jackets, a survival kit, a battery generator to heat the car, a 4-week supply of emergency food, a portable stove, 16 containers of mosquito repellent, a hunting knife. And a guide to survivng Polar attacks in the arctic wilderness. And emergency bottles of water, emergency toilet paper, for his summer trip to Toronto, Ontario. He's an idiot. He gets to the Canada border and they ask him where he's going!!!! He says "Toronto for the July weekend." Customs official: What have you brought here???? 16 jackets, emergency supplies, bear repellant???? Guy: Because my friend said it's FREEZING COLD in Canada. Customs official gets skeptical because he thinks perhaps this guy is planning to stay the winter, either that or hide out. And overstay his welcome and not plan on leaving the country. They keep him at the border for a few days. The guy starts USING his survival kit food and water to feed himself while sitting in the immigration customs office. Just to give him what he asked for, they purposely put the AC on 10 degrees celsius so he can freeze inside the immigration and customs building. He ends up being held over in the border office until the weekend is over, so they tell him to make a U-turn and USA customs will take it from there. They say "I hope you enjoyed your stay. Next time, do some research before you plan a trip to Toronto." It would be pretty funny. Or you can make it where they do let him into Toronto and then it just so happens the city experiences a black-out like a few summers ago, and the guy thinks it's ALWAYS like that You know? I've been in MANY Canadian cities. Intentionally, the last place I want to visit in Canada, after I see all the other provinces including the maritimes, is TORONTO. Isn't this fascinating? See everything except Toronto, and then Finally.....Toronto. Edit Dangerma: Definitely would put you in the credits. The thing though is going straight north by road, you can't go much farther than Kapuskasing. Or the road to James Bay. The only opportunity to drive FAR north is to go west of Edmonton. Unless of course you fly

Social Studies Help Please?

Keating Five The Keating Five (or Keating Five Scandal) refers to a Congressional scandal related to the collapse of most of the Savings and Loan institutions in the United States in the late 1980s. Following the deregulation of the banking industry in the 1980s, savings and loan associations (also known as thrifts) were given the flexibility to invest their depositors' funds in commercial real estate. (Previously, they had been restricted to investing in residential real estate.) Many savings and loan associations began making risky investments. As a result, the Federal Home Loan Bank Board, the federal agency that regulates the industry, tried to clamp down on the trend. In so doing, however, the FHLBB clashed with the Reagan administration, whose policy was deregulation of many industries, including the thrift industry. The administration declined to submit budgets to Congress that would request more funding for the FHLBB's regulatory efforts. In 1989, the Lincoln Savings and Loan Association of Irvine, Calif., collapsed. Lincoln's chairman, Charles H. Keating Jr., was faulted for the thrift's failure. Keating, however, told the House Banking Committee that the FHLBB and its former chief Edwin J. Gray were pursuing a vendetta against him. Gray testified that several U.S. senators had approached him and requested that he ease off on the Lincoln investigation. It came out that these senators had been beneficiaries of $1.3 million (collective total) in campaign contributions from Keating. This allegation set off a series of investigations by the California government, the United States Department of Justice, and the Senate Ethics Committee. The ethics committee's investigation focused on five senators: Alan Cranston (D-CA); Dennis DeConcini (D-AZ); John Glenn (D-OH); John McCain (R-AZ); and Donald W. Riegle, Jr. (D-MI), who became known as the Keating Five. After months of testimony revealed that all five senators acted improperly to differing degrees, the senators continually said they were following the status quo of campaign funding practices. In August 1991, the committee concluded that Cranston, DeConcini, and Riegle's conduct constituted substantial interference with the FHLBB's enforcement efforts and that they had done so at the behest of Charles Keating. The committee recommended censure for Cranston and criticized the other four for "questionable conduct." As it happened, Cranston, who was nearly 80 years of age, had already decided not to run for re-election in 1992. DeConcini and Riegle continued to serve in the Senate until their terms expired, but they did not seek re-election in 1994. DeConcini was appointed by President Bill Clinton in February, 1995 to the Board of Directors of the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation. [1] Glenn did choose to run for re-election in 1992 and it was anticipated that he would have some difficulty winning a fourth term in the Senate. However, Glenn handily defeated Lieutenant Governor R. Michael DeWine for one more term in the Senate before retiring in 1999. The scandal was followed by a number of attempts to adopt campaign finance reform—spearheaded by U.S. Sen. David Boren (D-OK)—but most attempts died in committee. A weakened reform was passed in 1993. Substantial campaign finance reform was not passed until the adoption of the McCain-Feingold Act in 2002. The only member of the Keating Five still in the U.S. Senate is John McCain. John McCain was forced to re-invent himself as a campaign reformer in order to keep his seat in the Senate. Now he’s running for President, the biggest lobbyist haven of all. Roy has filed lawsuits against God, U.S. Presidents, Supreme Court Justices, fast food restaurants, foreign leaders.[2], and Wikipedia [3] [4]. Roy's lawsuits have addressed, among many other things, actions taken by President George W. Bush, overcharging by telecommunication companies, the appointment of Chief Justice John Roberts to the Supreme Court, and "failure of democratic societies and God's role therein."[5] In 2006 Judge Michael W. McConnell of The United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit described a typical Roy complaint: Roy, a/k/a Joseph Geronimo, Jr. filed a 115-page complaint, a 144-page amended complaint, and a 40-page second amended complaint against over sixty defendants, including among many others President Bush, God as U.S.-based divine benefactor, several government agencies, The New York Times, and Kentucky Fried Chicken. In addition to pages of rambling discourse, the complaint contains numerous illegible handwritten remarks.[6] The Tenth Circuit went on to affirm the district court's dismissal of the complaint holding that no discernible claim was apparent from the complaint. Judge McConnell also humorously noted that the court "strongly suspect[ed] at least one defendant was not properly served."[7] Most, if not all, of Roy's complaints have been dismissed. A 2006 United States District Court for the District of Delaware opinion, Jungle Democracy v. U.S., describes Roy as "no stranger to litigation" and provides a partial list of Roy lawsuits that have been dismissed since 1991.[8] Despite Roy's lack of success in the courts, his lawsuits have been discussed in law school classrooms and in law related blogs.[9] [10] In April 2007 Roy filed a civil rights action against, among others, CBS Broadcasting Inc., MSNBC, the United States Government, and controversial radio shock jock Don Imus.[11] In October, 2007, Roy filed a suit in the US District Court, Middle District of Florida, against "Wikipedia Encyclopedia, USA, All News Media, All State Board of Elections, Federal Election Commission". Help Me PLEASE.????????????????????? IQALUIT, Nunavut - Northern hunters, scientists and people with vivid imaginations have discussed the possibility for years. But Roger Kuptana, a guide from Canada’s Sachs Harbor was the first to suspect it had actually happened when he proposed that a strange-looking bear shot last month by an American sports hunter might be half polar bear, half grizzly. Officials seized the creature after noticing its white fur was scattered with brown patches and that it had the long claws and humped back of a grizzly. Now a DNA test has confirmed that it is indeed a hybrid — possibly the first documented in the wild. Story continues below ↓advertisement | your ad here "We've known it's possible, but actually most of us never thought it would happen," said Ian Stirling, a polar bear biologist with the Canadian Wildlife Service in Edmonton. Polar bears and grizzlies have been successfully paired in zoos before — Stirling could not speculate why — and their offspring are fertile. Breeding seasons for the two species overlap, though polar bear gets started slightly earlier. Polar bear and grizzly territory also overlap in the Western Arctic around the Beaufort Sea, where the occasional grizzly is known to head onto the sea ice looking for food after emerging from hibernation. Grizzlies hunting seals? Some grizzly bears make it over the ice all the way to Banks Island and Victoria Island, where they have been spotted and shot before. These bears will scavenge seals left over by polar bears. IMAGE: HYBRID BEAR Canadian Wildlife Service via AP Hunter Jim Martell poses with the hybrid bear. "And some hunters have told me that they think sometimes the grizzly bears actually hunt seals, which I'm quite sure they could do," Stirling said. That might explain how a grizzly got to the region, but few can explain how it managed to get along with a polar bear mate long enough to produce offspring. Colin Adjun, a wildlife officer in Nunavut, said he's heard stories before about an oddly colored bear cavorting with polar bears. "It was a light chocolate color along with a couple of polar bears," Adjun said. And though people have talked about the possibility of a mix, "it hasn't happened in our area," he said. While the latest find is a surprise, it is not necessarily another sign of climate change, said John England, a geologist who was with the team that spotted the earlier grizzly. "If we want evidence for climate change, we don't have to go to an isolated occurrence of a grizzly bear somewhere," said England, who holds a northern research chair on environmental change in the Arctic. "The satellite imagery showing sea ice reduction over the last 30 years is proof positive of very dramatic changes in the northern hemisphere."
