Low Calorie Dieting For Dummies? I just bought the book Low Calorie Dieting for Dummies. How effective is this diet? Has anyone read/tried it? I have looked everywhere online for reviews and only found one on Amazon. Thanks Shelby
Dieting for Dummies question? Okay, so I started a fitness and diet program. I know that 3,500 = 1lb of fat. This is where I am confused. I know exercise burns calories. But when they say you have to drop 3500 calroies for 1 lbs of fat, is that based off the calroies you were eating BEFORE starting a diet or is it based off the calories you are now consuming? Because right now I am at 1200 calories a day. And exercising doing cardio 6 days a week. So does this mean I need to burn 3500 calories during the week at my work outs in order to drop 1 lb a week? Can someone help clear this up for me? Thanks
How do I get my 7 month old son to sleep through the night? I have a 7 month old boy who has only ever slept through the night (at least 10pm til 6am) for the period of one week! He weighs 24lb and is 76cm tall so he's a big boy, and I just put it down to the fact that he is hungry? He is eating a normal balanced diet and having about a pint of Cow and Gate baby milk a day. He uses a dummy just as and when he wants soothing but not religiously. Its not that he wakes up and is wide awake, he doesnt even open his eyes he just cries, I just give him a bottle and off to sleep he goes again, but he is waking for a feed twice a night and after 7 months I'm dead on my feet! Any tried and tested tips? Can't just leave him to cry as I have a four and a five year old who need their sleep too! Help :o)
Question About Losing Fat and Toning work out routine? I have been doing cardio 6 days a week for 45 minutes each day (alternating between treadmill, bike and eliptical machine). I am ready to start adding in some weight training so I can tone and lose fat at the same time. I am not very good at knowing exactly what exercises I should be doing, so if anyone could give me some advise and dummy it down a little ;) on what would be a good beginners routine it would be greatly appreciated. Added things about me: Female, I am 5'6 currently I am at 177lbs and am sticking to a 1500-1700 calorie daily diet.
I need some tips for losing fat, building some muscle? I am no dummy when it comes to working out. But, unfortunately after getting married and working a desk job for over a year, I easily put on 20 pounds. Ideally I would like to lose about 30 pounds to get to my ideal weight, which is 120. I am 5'2". I looked good @ 130, but would like to lose a bit more body fat. *I do know that muscle weighs more than fat. I am aware of the proper methods of working out-- low weight/high reps, cardio, stretching, etc. But, am I missing something? Also, what can I incorporate into my diet to help with the process? I am on the fence with eggs-- I've heard good and bad things, so I eat them about once a week. I recently cut soda out of my diet (almost completely) and avoid eating before bed. It's funny for me to ask about this because I'm usually the one giving advice on the topic! But, I am always open to learning more. And a side note: I want to do this the healthy way, so please no suggestions on diet pills or crash/fad diets! Just to summarize, I weigh 150 right now, not 120! Also, I do have a gym membership and try to go at least 3 days a week, but don't always make it.
What is the minimum amont of calories I can eat per day without going into starvation mode? 800 calories? In a book, "Dieting for Dummies", it says not to go below 800 calories, or that you will go into starvation mode and lower your metabolism. But it didn't specify minimum calorie intake for men, women, different heights, or different weights. Wouldn't the minimum be different for at least some of these groups? I am just finishing up the last two weeks of my diet, and I am ready to be done. Even if I did stick to 800 calories a day, I can't be sure that the foods that I eat have EXACTLY 800 calories. What if I get a happy meal and they give me 7 less fries than usual and I eat only 770 calories in one day? Would that slow down my metabolism for the rest of my diet?
can a big cockeroach be considered a meal for the raw food diet? ok i dont trust commercial cat food at all. nobody regulates it really. its complete garbage. i want to start my cat on the raw food diet, but all the research i do i dont understand it all sounds like "blah blah blah" with alot of words i cant define. so is there like a "raw food diet for dummies?" and where can i find the supplements for thet cats at? and what the heck is a grinder? im dumb, i need i explained to me like you would have to explain it to a 4 year old. and were can i find really fast recipes? do you realize thats what they would eat in the wild? you feed your cat crap! it will probably end up with a liver damage so you know how much ash and fillers are in cat food, do your research. the cat food companys slide buy with the minimal nutrients in it. Also please dont awsner my question if you have no idea of the benifits of the raw food diet. this is manly for people who are feeding there cats that. So please refrain from anwsering my question if you are not educated in this topic
Weight-loss and Pre-Pregnancy? After a recent surgery my doctor recommended that I try to get pregnant within the next couple of months. I know that I need to lose 15 lbs (or more would be better) but I am terrible with diets. I am walking about 30 minutes in the evening but I need a "Diet for Dummies" type of help. NO DIET PILLS!!! Does anyone have any suggestions?
I need to lose my last 7 pounds of baby weight......? I lost the first 27 pounds in 7 weeks, but the last 7 is hanging on no matter what I do. I'm not a diet and fitness dummy, I run and have cut junk- I'm a fairly small person, but I have a closet full of clothes that don't quite fit and I don't have money to replace them all. Any ideas what I can do to jump start this last 7 off?
Is kickboxing good for you? I dont excercise much, ok not at all. I have lost weight due to diet, but i need to tone up. I got a video "kickboxing for dummies" and it seems pretty fun. Is it good for you? Will it work or am I wasting my time?
ways to stop milk supply? i desperately want to stop breast feeding my 18 month old, he has a very healthy diet so food isnt a problem for him but he still loves to feed, more for comfort i think , i have tried reducing feeds, bottles, dummies, he not interested. im a single parent so it isnt like there is any one here to settle him at night or take over during the day, is it true that sudofed and cabbage leaves dry up your milk supply, and how do you use this method, thanks in advance for your answers
Did I break my low carb diet? First it's not a specific low carb diet like Atkins etc, I'm just limiting my carb intake to 20 carbs per day. Also please spare the comments about how bad the low cab diets are. Its my body, my diet. I ate at a Chinese restaurant and I ordered chicken with steamed vegetables. I'm not worried about the chicken or the veggies, but the sauce they used. There was definitely a sauce. And i was hoping that someone knew how many carbs that sauce had. I know I should probably be more specific about the sauce but dummy me, didn't ask. And if I did break it(pretty sure I did) will that affect my weight loss? If so, is there some food I should sacrifice for a few days? Thanks so much to anyone who answers this question.
I need websites or pics for exercising at home.? I'm going on a diet for a 2mths and I dont have time for the gym. I have a pilates book and I can use some of those moves but I really wanted some pics of different exercising moves with or without weights. My main focus is toning my breast, stomach and legs. I'm 5'7" 175lbs so i'm dieting to loose about 30 in 2 mths. So meals and exercising ideas are welcome. Heck I'll even be someones test dummy for a weight loss experiment. But not anything thats going to harm my body. I really want to loose the weight in a healthy way not from some wonder pills/liquid.
Which diabetic cookbook should I buy? I am looking for a cookbook with simple -easy to find ingredients- recipes. My dad has type 2 diabetes. He's overweight and I need to start cooking for him so that he can lose weight and at the same time control his diabetes immediately because his doctor called and told me if his diet is not controlled he could have a heart attack. I am thinking of buying one of these books, but I was wondering if anyone has tried any of them and knows which one is the best. Diabetes Cookbook for Dummies by Alan L. Rubin The Easy 4-Ingredient Diabetic Cookbook by Sally Hunt All New Complete Step-by-Step Diabetic Cookbook I could use recipes I find online, but it's a hassle because I don't have a printer and I can't cook with my computer in the kitchen. Any help would be appreciated! Thank you for the information. I should have mentioned my dad also has high blood pressure and high cholesterol.
calorie question? I am quite the dummy when it comes to the whole calorie thing, so please forgive me ahead of time if this answer comes off as completely stupid. In a 2000 calorie per day diet, how many of those calories are supposed to be from 'fat'? Thanks!
Diet measurment of carbs - for Diabetic patient? Hi! My husband was just diagnosed with diabetes, and although we will be taking a class, it will take place in two weeks. Meanwhile, I understand that I have to measure or count his carbs, but I need to know how many carbs in each meal are allowed. I have been looking for information, and now I am overwhelmed. So, the question is: DOES ANYBODY KNOW A WEBSITE WITH easy to follow instructions about counting carbs and exchange possibilities? (changing carbs from fruit to starches, please). I need something like for dummies, because I am pretty lost!!! Thank you!
Advise for my baby with winter sickness bug pls? My son picked up this flippin bug thats been going round, it started on the 17th December and he still has it now. He is 16 m/o. He gave it to me his dad and his bro but we were fine after about 24 hrs. The vomiting has stopped but he STILL has the runs. I have cut dairy out of his diet and for the past 3 days he has eaten nothing but toast and bland things like rice and crackers but this is still not helping- toys, dummy's and bottles are all sterilised regularly but still nothing is working. I took him to the docs last week and they did nothing for him, just sent us away saying it will pass soon if I keep the diet plain. Can anyone suggest anything I can do to help him. I am concerned that it may not be the bug anymore but a digestion issue caused by the bug as we have not been reinfected? Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks x
6 week old crying alot...what is going on? My beautiful bouncing boy Elijah has suddenly become extremely fussy (just this past 3 days). He has been a very happy calm baby up until this point. He constantly cries until the dummy is in his mouth or he is sucking on anything (be it breast, bottle or finger). And the minute it falls out or is taken away he just starts to scream. I am wondering if this is just a growth spurt and it will pass...or something else happening. He burps really well after each meal (even though he falls asleep everytime when he eats...i have to wake him to burp him). And his pees and poos are just as they should be. I have been using gripe water and ovol with some of the feedings...but everything I have tried only works for a very short period of time. Please if there are any mums out there that have been through this please give me some advice. Note: I have not changed my diet at all the whole time I have been breastfeeding so I dont think it is anything I am passing on to him. Note: We are going for a 6 week check up tomorrow...I just wanted motherly advice..not doctor advice right now.
