Does a low carb diet cause you to lose muscle? If so, what is the most effective way to lose body fat? I'm currently doing cardio 3 times a week coupled with power strength training twice a week. I used to eat good carbs (like multi grain bread, wheat and granola cereal, etc) and have lost 15kg in the past 6 months with about 10% of body fat down. Recently one health instructor I met told me that going on low carb is even better and I'll lose weight even faster. I have since then (for about a week now) been on a low carb and it feels weird to be on a low carb, high fat & protein diet since I've been on a low fat diet for some time. I've also been researching and it seems low carb diets are unhealthy. Is this true? Pls advise. Thanks.
When will people realize that low carb diets are not the answer to peoples weight problems? Low carb diets are intended for the athlete who has to lose significant amounts of weight in short periods of time: wrestlers, MMA fighters, boxers, body builders, etc. They are not meant to be a lifestyle choice. Suggesting these diets to the average person looking to lose a couple of pounds makes no sense as nearly all the weight lost in such a diet will be gained back ( I just fought saturday, weighed in at 185, and weigh close to 200 today). These are dead end diets. Look to balance your intake with strenuous exercise. Exercise and balanced nutrition is the key, not fad dieting.
I am switching from a low carb diet to a low fat diet diet. Do you think I will gain weight? I have been on a low carb diet for seven months and I've lost 25 lbs. I have pleateued at the same weight for about 3 months. I want to try and exercise more but I find I have no energy to run as much as I used to before low carb. I also miss fruits and whole grains, such as cereal, and I need more fiber in my diet (its very hard to use the bathroom on low carb if you know what I mean). I know I lost weight on low carb and I'm scared to death if I switch back I will regain. I'm just so confused! And if I do add carbs back should I still limit them? Like only at breafkast and lunch? Someone who is nowledgeable please help!! Thanks so much.
What kind of foods can you suggest for a low carb diet? Ok- I went on a low carb diet and I found a list of foods for snacks, but not many recipes or dinner/lunch ideas except wraps. Can anyone give me suggestions? Also- I am on a low carb diet b/c it is the only thing I have found that eases my stomach pains after meals. Tried lots of diet adjustments and cutting out unnecessary carbs is the only thing that keeps me feeling good. I will and love to eat whole grain foods.
How does a low carb diet work? I heard that after a few days if your body doesnt have a lot of carbs, your body starts to get rid of the fat. Something like that. Why is it that a low carb diet help you lose weight fast? I also heard in the news that the low carb diet is the most successful diet people get on.
How do you get off of a low-carb diet without gaining weight? My experience with being on a low-carb diet has been that I am extremly sensitive to carbs. For example, if I eat even a single chocolate bar, it leads to weight gain the very next day. Due to this increasing sensitivity to carbs, it gets harder and harder to lose or even avoid gaining weight.
Any of you runners ever tried a low carb diet? ....and if so, did it effect your running? I can't get these last 10 pounds off but enjoy running 20-30 miles a week. I've tried Low calorie/low fat but it doesn't seem to work. I started a low carb diet a couple of days ago and already see results. However, I'm concerned that it might make me too tired to keep up with my running schedule. So far it hasn't had any impact but I don't think I'm completely carb depleted yet.

What does a low carb diet consist of exactly? I'm confused about what carbs are and what aren't...They say to eat a low carb diet if you want to lose weight..what are some low carb foods? Also, is it true that it takes 3 weeks for the body to get in a fat-burning mode? Because I want to lose 5 pounds this upcoming 3 weeks or so.. How is it possible to lose weight on low carb diet and exercise? To lose weight you have to burn more calories than you eat, but it seems you would have to exercise all day to burn calories if you are on the high cal high fat low carb diet. I ask this because I lost 30 lbs on the low carb diet with no exercise. Now I am back on low carb and exercising and I'm not losing the weight I did when I went on the diet the first time, but I thought if I added exercise my weight loss would sky rocket.
How does a low carb diet cause a false-positive on an alcohol breathalizer test? I know that a low carb diet causes energy to be created from fatty acids rather than glucose and that somewhere along the line ketones are created, which triggers the breathalizer. it is also the cause of severe diabetics to have the characteristic "sweet" breath. But what are the cellular mechanisms for this? I can't find any legit resources, but think this would be an interesting topic for an O-Chem presentation. Thanks!

My husband and I have been on a very low carb diet since October of last year, and although we havce lost quite a bit, I have found my anti-depressants no longer seem to be working and I am more and more depressed. How much weight should you expect to lose on a low carb diet? Approx.? Im am currently trying a low carb diet, were my limit of carb intake is around 20% of my daily intake. How many carbs can you eat a day on the low carb diet? I am on week 4 of the low carb diet, and I'm not following Atkins or South Beach for guidance just watching what I'm eating. I was really strict the first month, and now I feel like I'm constantly starving, so I am allowing myself a few more. But I would like to know without having to read one of the books how many carbs I can be eating a day? P.S. Yes, I'm exercising. :)
How can I stick with my low-carb diet? I'm going to start doing a low-carb diet. I have a thyroid condition and Low-Carb has been the only thing that has helped me to lose weight. I've tried low fat and all of that and it doesn't work for me. I don't really have very much weight to lose (about 25lbs, but due to my condition, I gain very easily) However, I love carbs and find that even though I see results, it's very hard for me to stick to. Any ideas?

Low-carb dieting question...your advice please!? Over the past two years I have gained about 40lbs from working, going to school, and being on prednisone for an extended time due to illness. After school I lost about 16lbs and gained 10 back. i still work alot but really want to lose weight, to look and feel better. I've heard all they hype about low carb dieting and it's been in a couple magazines lately. My question is: Will cutting my carbs like in the Atkins induction help me to jumpstart my weighloss and help me lose weight? I do intend to eat healthy and be more active, even after I add some carbs back in. If you've done this I'd really like your info!!! Thanks so much! Oh, by the way I am 5'2'' and 150lbs. Would like to lose around 20 or so
