"Here's To The Health Of Cardinal Puff-Puff?"? I've just escaped the remainders of a barbecue with a bunch of Kiwis who were caught in a drinking ritual with the recurring line as stated above, barely making it home on my own two feet. What an addictive little spiel this is! Does anyone know where this originated? Is it a Kiwi thing, or British, or anything else? Thanks.

Where can I find historical examples of a value-for-value stock option exchange program? Intel is doing it (No details yet though) Cardinal Health has done it I am sure a lot more US-listed corporations out there have done it. Where can I find historical examples of the terms around a value for value (sometimes called a value neutral) stock option exchange? For example, I am curious about which outstanding options were eligible, which ones were ineligible, what the terms for the exchange were, as well as old and new vesting dates.

Resume Question.....really wierd, please help? On your resume, you state who you worked for and where Im having a hard time trying to figure out how to put this one position my resume I got placed by a staffing firm (Adecco) which is based in CT to work on a project for a company called Cardinal Health, which provides all the equipment used in hospitals. But...I didn't work at the Cardinal Health premises. We worked at a hospital called Westchester Hospital where we unloaded the Cardinal Health products and tested them etc. So anyway, on my resume...do I state I worked at Addecco, Cardinal Health, or Westchester hospital? How is this usually stated on a resume when you worked for a staffing firm?
Who is going to journey on to Florence through the Tuscan countryside ? We would stay at Bagni di Pisa (health giving waters are still offered to an international clientele) and visit Pisa during one of the city’s festivals, staying at Lungo river Arno palace to enjoy the best view of the festivities http://www.provincia.pisa.it/pisalive/it/Pisalive/pisalive.html Do you know a Villa which has hosted many illustrious guests such as Gustavus III of Sweden, Christian II of Denmark, the Royal Family of Great Britain, Benedict Stuart Cardinal of York, General Murat, Luigi Buonaparte, Paolina Borghese, Carlo Alberto of Savoy, the poets Byron and Shelley, and various other personages from the history books ?
The seven cardinal sins; are they friends or enemis of self; or mere emotions which drive the mind of self.? WE HAVE TO LIVE AND DIE WITH THE SEVEN CARDINAL SINS NO MATTER WHAT. Every person, place, or thing, with whom / with which we deal and interact with; is in-fact a solidified, working and performing image of the seven sins; which attract us towards them with the powers and abilities of SINS only.in them selves for their own purposes itself; but to which we get attracted for our own purposes We although engage ourselves with them and through them in sinfull activities; for the purpose of seeking and gaining the joys, pleasures and happiness of self from them; orTHAT from them; from which we could get the joys, pleasures, and happiness of self; for the reasons of helping ourselves with; but they have their own sinfull purposes.. How can we ensure that we not only know, fight and conquer the enemies ( seven sins) but also win them over; and realise the true wealth of pure joy, satisfaction and happiness of self; for both; from such persons, places and things; so that the seven sins do not become the causes of any / all of the following; atleast for the self. loss of strength and wisdom of self; evils of birth, death, old age and illnessess of the mind, body, heart, and intellect of self; lack or loss of opportunities for self; unnecessary physical and mental hard work and labour and industry of self lacking in direction and focus; meaning less struggles; hard ships, sufferings and sorrows of the mind of self; lack of proper education, knowledge, health, wealth, and wisdom of the mind of self for self; fear, lies, poverty, sicknesses, diseases, violence, crime, etc. The seven cardinal sins are; PRIDE ; excessive belief in abilities of self alone; instead of those of the grace of god as well; which interferes with the individual's recognition of the grace of God. ENVY; desire of the self; for others' traits, status, abilities, or situation. ANGER; manifestation in the self of the individual who spurns love and opts instead for fury. It is also known as Wrath. SLOTH avoidance of the self; of physical or spiritual work. GREED; desire of the self; for material wealth or gain, ignoring the realm of the spiritual. It is also called Avarice or Covetousness. GLUTTONY; inordinate desire of the self; to consume more than that which one requires. LUST; inordinate craving of the self; for the pleasures of the body only. ALL THIS FINALLY RAISE THE QUESTION THAT ARE THE SEVEN CARDINAL SINS OUR TRUE FREINDS AND TRUE ENEMIES ALSO; FOR FROM THEM ONLY; WE GET THE JOY, LOVE, HAPPINESS AND SATISFACTION OF SELF TOGETHER WITH ACTIONS OF SINS, IF THIS IS SO HOW CAN WE SAVE AND SAFE GAURD OUR SELVES; TO ENSURE THAT WE ALSO DO NOT ENTRAP OUR SELVES IN THE MIND SET OF THE SEVEN SINS; I.E. A) excessive belief in abilities of self alone; B) desire of the self; for others' traits, status, abilities, or situation. C) manifestation in the self of the individual who spurns love and opts instead for fury. D) avoidance of the self; of physical or spiritual work. E) desire of the self; for material wealth or gain, F) ignoring the realm of the spiritual. G) inordinate desire of the self to consume more than that which one requires. H) inordinate craving of the self; for the pleasures of the body only. How important it is for us to know and recoganise the traits of sin in others ; to fight them; to conquer them; to win them over; and to realise from them the true wealth of the spirits of joy, love, satisfaction and happiness of self.. How do we do it

Can you compare these two health insurance plans? I'm going to be a college freshman, and I'm considering whether or not I should opt for my school's comprehensive (but extremely expensive) health insurance plan or stick with my current Blue Cross (Anthem?) plan. Here are the details: Option one is the 3500 PPO plan from Anthem. The premium is $73/mo or just under $900 a year. Like the name suggests, the deductible is $3500 and I supposedly pay nothing after that. http://www.individualhealth.com/bluecros… Option two is called "Cardinal Care" through the university. It i a whopping $800/qtr, or $3200/yr. However, the benefits are great and the coverage is very comprehensive. $10 co-pay, and $200 deductible and I pay 20% of costs after that. http://www.stanford.edu/group/vaden/insu… Which plan should I opt for? My family might sign up with me if I go for the Anthem one which would decrease the deductible per person. I also don't go to the hospital/doctor very much, but I would like dental/eye benefits. I also pay a health service fee to my school which covers basic medical needs such as medical advice, weekday appointments, urgent care, etc. sorry links got messed up: cardinal care: http://www.stanford.edu/group/vaden/insurance/cardinalcare.html and ppo 3500 is a quick google search away

Need to determine value of a 2006 Forrest River Cardinal 5th Wheel Model#CAF29RKLE Kelly BB would be ideal? Purchased new, used this past winter for 4 weeks down south. Great rig, super clean, includes all Luxury Equipment & Features. Forced to sell due to health so I really need to get a realistic figure to price for sale. Somewhere between wholesale & retail would be great. I believe the reason why I can't find it is that it is classified as "Limited Edition". NADA list 2005 but not 2006. Unable to find Kelly Blue Book so it may have my 2006 model listed. Should you be able to find me a price to quote, it would be appreciated very much :-)

Doctors Pregnancy Test Vs. Equate ...Can you help me? I took the Equate pregnancy test twice once yesterday and once this morning and both got negative results. However, on Thursday I took one at the doctor's office (Cardinal Health brand) and it was positive. I am 4- weeks post-partum and am confused on how soon Equate really picks up. The doctor's test had a really faint line so I'm wondering if Equate's test isn't picking it up w/ the low levels!!! My doctor said that after the 1st week my HCG levels from the baby shouldn't show up. I go back on Thursday for another urine test and he said if it shows positive he'll do bloodwork. Just looking for advice on what ya'll think.
Why are illegals worried about what the US Government will do? The US government can’t tie its own shoes let alone stop illegal immigration. The list of failed US government efforts is so long it makes the Arizona Cardinals look like Super Bowl contenders in comparison. Just look at the history. The War on Terror…No Iraq…No South Korea…No Iran….No Venezuela? Get in line! The hunt for Osama? Can’t catch one guy. This is embarrassing. Katrina? FEMA shows its ass. The war on Drugs? Really? The first amnesty for illegals that was supposed to have ended the problem. Gulf war I, mission accomplished almost? Vietnam? Had these young men lived they would be running the country today. The Great Society? One of the biggest jokes ever played on America. The first energy crisis in the 1970’s. You know, the one that was supposed to lead us to freedom from foreign oil! No child left behind? A few hundred billion dollars later we can’t even find the children. Social Security? Oxymoron Health Care? For those that can pay.
What is coming out of holy holes, according to vatican Church? Vatican Pope: condoms don't stop Aids http://www.guardian.co.uk/aids/story/0,7369,1059068,00.html Steve Bradshaw Thursday October 9, 2003 The Guardian The Catholic Church is telling people in countries stricken by Aids not to use condoms because they have tiny holes in them through which HIV can pass - potentially exposing thousands of people to risk. The church is making the claims across four continents despite a widespread scientific consensus that condoms are impermeable to HIV. A senior Vatican spokesman backs the claims about permeable condoms, despite assurances by the World Health Organisation that they are untrue. The church's claims are revealed in a BBC1 Panorama programme, Sex and the Holy City, to be broadcast on Sunday. The president of the Vatican's Pontifical Council for the Family, Cardinal Alfonso Lopez Trujillo, told the programme: "The Aids virus is roughly 450 times smaller than the spermatozoon. The spermatozoon can easily pass through the 'net' that is formed by the condom. "These margins of uncertainty... should represent an obligation on the part of the health ministries and all these campaigns to act in the same way as they do with regard to cigarettes, which they state to be a danger." The WHO has condemned the Vatican's views, saying: "These incorrect statements about condoms and HIV are dangerous when we are facing a global pandemic which has already killed more than 20 million people, and currently affects at least 42 million." The organisation says "consistent and correct" condom use reduces the risk of HIV infection by 90%. There may be breakage or slippage of condoms - but not, the WHO says, holes through which the virus can pass. Scientific research by a group including the US National Institutes of Health and the WHO found "intact condoms... are essentially impermeable to particles the size of STD pathogens including the smallest sexually transmitted virus... condoms provide a highly effective barrier to transmission of particle

Are the St.louis cardinals a world series contending team this year? i mean they got holiday, pujols for batting pitching they have wainright and carpenter defense they have yadi who is also a good hitter for a catcher and they got a consistent lineup through out cant say they are the best but if things go good based on players health do the cardinals have a good chance
Why there are unholy holes in holy condoms (according to Vatican Pope)? do you think Hitler is in heaven? Hitler was a devout Catholic and had accepted christ this is both documented by others and said by himself as shown in this speech that he gave in 1922: "I say: my feeling as a Christian points me to my Lord and Savior as a fighter. It points me to the man who once in loneliness, surrounded only by a few followers, recognized these Jews for what they were and summoned men to fight against them and who, God's truth! was greatest not as a sufferer but as a fighter." clearly he looked up to Christ and accepted him as his savior. Also note that what he did to the Jews and others is not out of accordance with scripture: "2 Corinthians 10:5-6: Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled" He saw the party as in interment for Christianity: "The Party, as such, stands for positive Christianity, but does not commit itself to any particular denomination. It combats the Jewish-materialistic spirit within and without us, and is convinced that our nation can achieve permanent health only from within on the basis of the principle: The common interest before self-interest." From the Nationalsozialistiche Deutsche Arbeiter Partei Program, written by Adolf Hitler and Anton Drexler. Hitler was also able to get the Vatican to support him: ""That there was an understanding between Cardinal Innitzer and Hitler, who made his usual glib promises to respect and protect the Church, nobody denies. When Hitler marched into Vienna on March 13, 1938, all the church-bells in Austria rang, and a Swastika flag waved over the ancient Cathedral. Two days later Innitzer had a cordial interview with Hitler, and the cardinal and four of his leading bishops issued a manifesto summoning all Austrians to vote for Hitler in the coming plebiscite. The cardinal wrote "Heil Hitler" after his signature.". Hitler Dupes The Vatican by Joseph McCabe" and even if one assumes that Hitler took part in crimes which where not covered under new testament law one must remember that the soul requirement for entrance into heaven is a belief in christ: John 3:36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him. If they have that then regardless of their past crimes they are let in this is feather proven when Christ himself accepts into heaven to two thieves that he dies with their past did not matter to him all that mattered was that they accepted him. so do I have this right or am i missing something here? "god forgives all and he loves all. he could still be in the purgatory waiting for the judgement" see the thing is he did nothing to forgive at least according to scripture all his actions where justifyed 1) he was free to attack the jews because they did not accept Christ 2) he was free to attack the americans and British as well as anyone else that entered the war because they defend the jews who did not believe in christ. no matter how you slice their no reason to think he did not go to heaven. Also he was catholic so him confessing his sins(what he saw as sins anyway) is a given. purgatory is an Islamic concept not a Christian one as far as im aware. An Associated Press article from the Lansing State Journal, February 23, 1933, is headlined, "Hitler Aims Blow at 'Godless' Move," and talks about how Hitler was campaigning against atheist communists and wanted support from Catholic Nazis. One line in the article specifically says, "Hitler, himself, is a Catholic." You can see the entire article here(http://www.infidels.org/library/historical/unknown/hitler.html) In addition, in 1941, Hitler told General Gerhart Engel: "I am now as before a Catholic and will always remain so." He never left the church. He was baptized a Roman Catholic as an infant and was a communicant and altar boy in his youth. A comparison of the anti-Jewish measures of the Catholic Church and those of the Nazi regime. From "From the book Christian Antisemitism, A History of Hate by William Nichols, pages 204-206. Jews not allowed to employ Christian servants or possess Christian slaves, 3d Synod of Orleans, 538Law for the Protection of German Blood and Honor, September 15, 1935 (RGBI I, 1146.) yes the Catholic Church "leadership" was with him "Washington and you're not funny. How can you joke about something like that?" This is no joke this is simply looking at scripture and trying to figure out if Hitler is indeed in hell like everyone assumes.Mind you in this debate I am taking the stance of a biblical literalist meaning that I only take into account what the bible specifically tells me is wrong or right while I personally(in real life) don't agree with a biblical literalist interpretation of the bible otherwise you run into probloms such as this one.
Poem analysis help please? Here is the peom by Andrew Lang: "Money taketh town and wall, Fort and ramp without a blow; Money moves the merchants all, While the tides shall ebb and flow; Money maketh Evil show Like the Good, and Truth like lies: These alone can ne'er bestow Youth, and health, and Paradise. Money maketh festival, Wine she buys, and beds can strow; Round the necks of captains tall, Money wins them chains to throw, Marches soldiers to and fro, Gaineth ladies with sweet eyes: These alone can ne'er bestow Youth, and health, and Paradise. Money wins the priest his stall; Money mitres buys, I trow, Red hats for the Cardinal, Abbeys for the novice low; Money maketh sin as snow, Place of penitence supplies: These alone can ne'er bestow Youth, and health, and Paradise." Coould someone PLEASE explain to me what each line means? and NOT just what the peom means overall? Thanks :)

Money maketh festival, Wine she buys, and beds can strow; Round the necks of captains tall, Money wins them chains to throw, Marches soldiers to and fro, Gaineth ladies with sweet eyes: These alone can ne'er bestow Youth, and health, and Paradise. A Vatican “Contradiction”? “Holiness, why does the Vatican still sell cigarettes?” a priest asked John Paul II during the pope’s yearly audience with the clergy of Rome. He continued: “Besides damaging health, this commerce contradicts your continual appeals in favor of the protection of health and our pastoral activity.” For Ugo Mesini, the 76-year-old priest, the fact that the Vatican sells tobacco and cigarettes containing the statement “smoking is damaging to your health” is a “counter-testimony” and a “contradiction” to the pope’s message. As reported in the Rome newspaper Il Messaggero, the pope replied that on the matter of tobacco, his “conscience is clear.” He promised, though, to speak about the Vatican’s cigarette sales with the overseeing cardinal.

Byline: Amy Sullivan The leaders of The Roman Catholic Church traditionally couch even the harshest disagreements in decorous, ecclesiastical language. But it didn't take a decoder ring to figure out what Rome-based Archbishop Raymond Burke meant in a late-September address when he charged Boston Cardinal Sean O'Malley with being under the influence of Satan, "the father of lies." Burke's broadside at O'Malley was inspired by the Cardinal's decision to permit and preside over a funeral Mass for the late Senator Ted Kennedy. And it has set the Catholic world abuzz. Even more than protests over the University of Notre Dame's decision to invite President Barack Obama to speak, disputes over the Kennedy funeral have brought into the open an argument that has been roiling within American Catholicism. The debate nominally centers on the question of how to deal with politicians who support abortion rights. Burke and others who believe a Catholic's position on abortion trumps all other teachings have faced off against those who take a more holistic view of the faith. But at the core, the divide is over who decides what it means to be Catholic. A Bull in a China Shop It strikes no one as surprising that the 61-year-old Burke is at the center of the current fight. The former Archbishop of St. Louis made national headlines in 2004 when he became the first Catholic leader to say he would deny the Eucharist to Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry. He led an unsuccessful drive to bar Communion for politicians who support abortion rights. And as Election Day approached in 2004, Burke issued a warning to Catholics in the key swing state of Missouri that they should not present themselves for Communion if they voted for pro-choice candidates. The Archbishop's outspoken comments did not go unnoticed in Rome. In June 2008, Burke was unexpectedly transferred to the Vatican. The move was widely interpreted as a way to put some distance between Burke and the political contest in the States. "It was not unrelated to issues of political timing," observes Mark Silk, a professor of religion at Trinity College. Burke's new assignment came with an impressive title: Prefect of the Supreme Tribunal of the Apostolic Signatura--essentially chief justice of the Vatican's highest court. But the job, which involves hearing appeals of lower-canon-court rulings on issues like annulment requests, did not stop him from commenting on American politics. In January he charged that the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops was responsible for Obama's victory because it overwhelmingly approved a document suggesting that Catholics could consider issues besides abortion when deciding how to vote. The conference's in-house news service, he added, failed to highlight Obama's moral failings in its campaign coverage. And he called Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, a pro-choice Catholic, a "source of deepest embarrassment to Catholics." Burke's confrontational approach doesn't always mesh with the more discreet diplomacy favored by his Italian colleagues. "He's seen as a bull in a china shop," says an American priest and longtime Rome resident. "I've seen Italian bishops roll their eyes." In retrospect, it should have been obvious that the funeral plans for Kennedy would reignite a lingering dispute within the church. The question of whether the Senator should even be described as a Catholic because of his support for abortion rights and his checkered life history was hotly debated on Catholic blogs and religion websites like Beliefnet.com. Right-wing Catholics lobbied the Boston archdiocese to refuse the Kennedy family a church funeral. Robert Royal of the Faith & Reason Institute called O'Malley's decision to go ahead with the Mass a "grave scandal" on a par with the sexual-abuse crisis. But it's one thing for partisans and bloggers to disparage a Mass for a dead Senator; it's quite another for a Vatican official to do so. Even some leading conservative Catholics may find they cannot support Burke's latest salvo. When told of the Archbishop's assertion that pro-choice Catholics should not be permitted funeral rites, Princeton professor Robert George was taken aback: "That's a very different, and obviously graver, claim than that with which I would have sympathy. I haven't heard before any bishop say that pro-abortion politicians should not be given a Catholic funeral." CardinalSeansBlog.org Friends of O'Malley's say The Cardinal was stunned by the criticism. The 65-year-old O'Malley is temperamentally Burke's opposite, a shy man who dislikes celebrity and shuns politics--a major reason he was appointed to the sensitive post in Boston. With his full beard and preference for wearing the brown robe of a Capuchin friar, the man who goes by "Cardinal Sean" is not easily identified as a Prince of the Church. When O'Malley received his red hat in 2006, he persuaded some friends to go
Do I have to send a letter to my old church for them to stop using my name in their statistics petitions? I used to be Catholic. I have gone through some of the 7 catholic sacraments: Baptism, Eucharist, Reconciliation, and Confirmation. Since my Confirmation (May 2004) I haven't even attended Mass since the end of Summer 2004. I haven't paid a Tithe. And I haven't been an active member of the Church in over 6 years. (Not even Christmas or Easter attendance.) I graduated from a private Catholic elementary/junior high school. I have gone through 4 years of public high school and 1 year of college. Since then I learned a huge difference in sexual education from "Just don't do it. It's a Sin against God!!" to "It's perfectly natural, just be careful!" I remember a priest rant about Gay bashing. Then one of my funniest friends told me he was gay, and I didn't understand what the priest was so upset about, gays were good friends and members of the community as any one else. Then there is the abortion issue, I was told it was murder and you will go to hell if you do it, and there is no redemption for people who do abort. Then in high school I read that it was a legal matter of privacy, and I understood and respected that women have a choice of reproductive health. I don't just mean abortion, there are artificial insemination and implanting (agaist God's will for you NOT to have a baby) and I support that but there was a preacher that said it went against the Grace of God. Now I find myself with inquisition and reasoning skills. I will not be told exactly what to believe until I see the logic behind the claim. I have come across a newsletter from my former Church and I saw my name in a section that I had been randomly selected to clean the Church building. What upset me was that my name was still on their roster for Church events. Does that mean that my name is also used for statistic petitions saying "this many members of the church don't want something to happen" (ie. condoms passed out in school or better sex education. Abortion/reproductive health clinic to open in town. etc.) But when in fact, I do!! Do I have to send a letter to denounce my faith in organized religion. And who would I send it to? The head priest of my former Church? The Biship Cardinal of the diocese (district) I attended?
Who failed to stop the priest molester Lawrence Murphy: the Vatican or the local police? The police didn't prosecute Murphy in 1973; Cardinal Ratzinger was petitioned in 1996. Although no charges were filed, complaints about Murphy were brought to police in 1973, the same year allegations of sexual misconduct against him were brought to the archdiocese, according to information posted by the Milwaukee Archdiocese on its website. Murphy was removed as director of St. John’s School in St. Francis the following year, and he moved to the Diocese of Superior where he began an “informal assignment” in Boulder Junction that continued until 1993 when he retired and admitted sexual contact with children at St. John’s, according to the archdiocese. The case was sent to the Vatican only because of the allegations involving the administration of the sacrament of confession, Morlino says in an e-mail. That office’s handling in 1996 of an investigation of Murphy was revealed in documents released as part of lawsuits brought by four of his victims. The Milwaukee Archdiocese first acknowledged in 2004 that there were substantiated accusations of child sex abuse against the priest. Ratzinger’s top aide, church documents disclosed, halted a planned canonical trial after Murphy wrote Ratzinger protesting that he was in poor health and had repented, the Times reported. Files contained no response to Murphy from Ratzinger. http://host.madison.com/ct/news/local/article_5fa1621b-c9f3-547e-a25d-098efccbaad4.html I'm wondering why critics of the Catholic Church would expect the church to enforce the civil law that local authorities failed to enforce.
Are there really un-holy holes in holy condoms or they are lying about holy condoms? The spermatozoon can easily pass through the 'net' that is formed

The area of the Pisa hills was already an attraction for enlightened travellers in the first half of the 1700s with the growth of the thermal spa of San Giuliano (Bagni di Pisa), which became a fashionable spot for the well-off classes. The mansions on the road along the hills, already renowned as places of gentle idleness and relaxation in the heart of the countryside and also for their small industrial facilities for the transformation of agricultural products, soon assumed the characteristics of true leisure resorts, just like those narrated by Carlo Goldoni and which we can continue to enjoy today http://www.bagnidipisa.com/ . Is there a cure for unrequited love? I'm in trouble. I've broken my own Cardinal Rule. I have fallen in love with a straight man. I don't know what to do about it. About two months ago a new guy moved into my apartment complex. We were very mentally compatable and started sharing books, watching movies, going to restaurants, and basically spending all our time together immediately. My apartment was more his home than his apartment was. He quickly became the best friend I'd ever had. I did not keep my homosexuality a secret from him. It was a fact he accepted without problem from the first time we met. Likewise it was clear that he was heterosexual. The lines were drawn. No problem, right? Wrong! I guess I was naive. I did not realize how having another male (such a compatable one) constantly in my personal space would affect me. All I know is that I looked down and my heart didn't belong to me anymore. I didn't even realize it was happening, or I would have never allowed it to happen. Now, I am invested in someone who cannot love me back. Rationally, I know that I should seperate myself from him before I damage my mental health, yet that is obviously the last thing that I want to do. I want to be closer to him not farther away. Also, I don't want to hurt him. I know he enjoys our friendship, and if I suddenly started distancing myself, he wouldn't understand. He would think he had done something wrong when in fact the fault is all mine. I don't know what to do. I go through everyday constantly fighting the urge to burst into tears. There has to be a solution. But what? Please help if you can, NTrouble

Why are we giving millions and millions of tax dollars to rich churches and their political activities? From the National Catholic Reporter: “A toxic political atmosphere” is preventing much-needed humane reform of the “broken immigration system” in the United States, Cardinal Theodore E. McCarrick said Nov. 3 at a forum on immigration and human dignity at Georgetown University. Calling for “comprehensive immigration reform,’ the retired Washington archbishop said, “We have to change what is broken, lest more people will suffer. We have to be courageous and persistent and change the system.” McCarrick was lead speaker of a three-member panel at the forum, put on by Georgetown’s Woodstock Theological Center and co-sponsored by CLINIC (Catholic Legal Immigration Network, Inc.), the Migration Policy Institute and the Jesuit Conference, USA. More than 300 people attended. In one way or another all the speakers urged new attention to immigration reform — which McCarrick bluntly said is now on a political back burner to the more currently dominant issues of the economic crisis, U.S. wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and the health care reform debate. The golden opportunity for immigration reform two years ago is gone, and those seeking comprehensive, humane reform need to watch closely for the next open window and seize it, he said. “Our receptivity to immigrants defines who we are” as Americans, said Donald M Kerwin Jr., a Woodstock Center associate fellow and vice president for programs of the Migration Policy Institute. “What immigrants want today is what your parents and grandparents wanted” as immigrants in previous generations. Kerwin, who for 15 years was director of CLINIC, a national program established by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops to provide legal assistance to refugees, asylum seekers and other immigrants seeking visas and legal residency in the United States, sharply disputed the use of “illegal aliens” or “illegal immigrants” as terms defining or identifying those who enter the country without legal status. “The rejection of ‘illegal alien’ is not a quibble. … It’s a line drawn in the sand” to say that these are human beings with rights and legitimate aspirations, whose illegal entry does not define who they are, he said. [I think it says an awful lot about them!] A little research into CLINIC I don’t have time today to look too deeply into CLINIC (some interesting stuff on their website) because I am going away for a few days and have to get out of here, but I was curious who was funding this legal office. Turns out you are—not entirely, though! On average CLINIC gets about a half a million dollars a year from the US taxpayer to legally defend immigrants including refugees, and apparently to lobby. The money passes through a Washington, DC office run by Kerwin for 15 years. If you are interested check out their latest Form 990 here. And, also go to that wonderful new source of information USA Spending.gov for information on their federal grants. By the way, as regular readers know the US Conference of Catholic Bishops, one of the top ten federal refugee contractors, is one of the largest recipients of federal grant dollars. I wonder do they ever consider that if millions of illegal aliens are legalized overnight that they will compound even further the poor job prospects for legal refugees. And, why are we giving millions and millions of tax dollars to rich churches and their political activities?
As a middle class citizen are you tired off...? Having to pay for the mistakes of the upper class and having to pay for the ones to lazy to work in the lower class? Oh and then now Obama (no offense to the Dems) wants to raise taxes on the middle class some more (those making as much as 44,000) and basically socialize health care to add on to what the middle class has to pay for already! I understand some people need assistance and im willing to help those in need but, im tired of seeing people that even I know personally sitting back collecting food stamps/cardinal cards and government assistance because they do not care about doing better in life because if they don't the government will always help them out. by the way i already know my title says off instead of "of". My mistake :-) Okay I do not know Obama's "current" tax plan for the future, but I do know that he has voted to raise taxes on those making 44,000 a year.

How long to you think the rich are going to float the bill before they leave the US with their money? #2 ? Here is a list of companies that have already relocated according to CNN. Everyday the list grows. Who will pay for the underprivileged when all we are is peasants waiting for the bread line to open. And dont forget, its not just the income tax from the company that we loose but also all the jobs that were lost and those taxes as well. I'm just wondering if anyone feels better since October 29th, when Saturn entered Libra? The Sabian Symbol for 1* Libra: Pierced by a dart of light a butterfly is ‘made perfect'. Dane Rudhyar says that this image indicates the formation of an archetypal pattern. The perfection of the butterfly, which is symbolic of the soul, is preserved. The archetypal patterns of life lead us to the sacred, to the holy, to the Light of consciousness. This degree opens the season of autumn, when humans begin the collective journey out of self and into relationship with others. As Saturn begins his journey through Libra, let the archetypal energies of the soul guide your transformation as you step beyond yourself. Hopefully, Saturn's 2 year-journey through Virgo has confronted us with the lessons of self-ownership. Saturn in Virgo has been a long, hard journey into ourselves, making us face our health, work and Self issues. Hopefully, we've gained valuable self-knowledge that will serve us well during Saturn's stay in Libra. Take time during the day to feel the shift in energy from Virgo's mutable earth to Libra's cardinal air. http://www.opednews.com/articles/1/The-Taurus-Full-Moon-2009-by-Cathy-Lynn-Pagano-091028-220.html And don't forget about the Scorpio/Taurus full moon Nov 2 "The Taurus Full Moon occurs on Monday, November 2 at 2:14pm Eastern Time and 11:14am Pacific time" The Sabian Symbol for the Sun at 11* Scorpio: A drowning man is being rescued. The Sabian Symbol for the Moon at 11* Taurus: A woman watering flowers in her garden. I know i feel different... that just happened to be the day I had my doctors appointment and got meds for anxiety. They schedueled to appt for me 2 weeks ago so it's kind of a coincidence that it was on that day :/. YES SUSAN... :) even before I appointment I was looking up at the sky in my backyard that morning and it was dark and gray and there was no clouds and then randomly two black crows were flying in the sky and then I looked over and there was white bird flying in the other direction. It was just eerie and weird... and I'm actualy just remembering this now, i wasn't even thinking about Saturn at that time.
Should Obama be impeached? Given that he has done far worse than Nixon could have dreamed of (the cardinal sin of spying on Democrats, he didnt even know about it, he just covered it up). Obama promised 'transparency' on all of his policies, yet hides behind closed doors while 'revising' his health care plan (when half of his own wont agree with it, it MUST be bad). He has put the country so far in debt that our grand kids will be broke. Even if he did nothing, and the country's economy imploded, we would have bounced back within a few years. Take over of the banking and Automotive industries. He is doing his best to turn America into a marxist state, which is a direct violation of the constitution and bill of rights. Dont even resort to 'Bush bashing'. FDR did far worse and was hailed as savior (typical Democrat idol worship). FDR made sure the country was completely tanked and the people were desperate before instituting his grab for more government power, Obama, if unchecked, will do the same. It wont be long before we are in a HOT nuclear war in the mideast, and he will be again hailed as a savior. impeachment proceedings should begin. NOW. What are your views on this? EDIT: Kevin G: there were no grounds for Nixon other than lying. I think Obama beat him on the lying bit. it just hasn't been brought to trial yet MISSING THE POINT. once again, Nixon really didnt do anything other than making Democrats mad. He COMMITTED NO CRIME. He took our finger off the nuclear trigger, and got us out of Vietnam. The Dems hated him and had their revenge when his hand got caught in the cookie jar, then pounced on him (basically a slime attack), and took the person who literally saved the future of the planet, and made uttering his very name despicable. once again, the left slime machine has won... AHHH! Patpoms.... someone who has connected the dots. Dismember the country, watch it implode, declare martial law, and put it back together (minus the U.S. Constitution), into his image. VERY GOOD, grasshopper.... For you drones who do 'selective reading', I deliberately only put one line in about the Constitution, which is the MOST IMPORTANT POINT. No, other than gutting the U.S. Constitution, he has done nothing..... except commit TREASON I will wait a short while longer for more responses. I have to be quick though, because no doubt the 'thought police' have their fingers poised over the 'report abuse' button, because I DARE disagree with a black man, and a black man who happens to be their savior. So much for free speech. For you patriots out there, I will hold on as long as I can....
help!!! with baby cardinals? i have been fostering 2 tiny baby cardinals for 2 1/2 weeks now. i have been grinding bird seed in a coffee bean grinder, sifting out seed hulls, making a cooked cereal with the powder, and adding a small amount of peanut butter fo protein. they are growing beautifully and have no health problems. i am trying to find out what i should enter into their diet. any good info out there? i could use it, as i wish to return these pigs in feathers to their natural habitat as soon as they are ready.
de facto ace vs. true ace? too often, teams get stuck into the mindset that big-name, high-priced pitchers are their aces when another guy in the rotation is having a much better season. yankees: sabathia is true to his ace status red sox: beckett is usually considered the ace, but lester should be the ace this year and start game no. 1 in the playoff. blue jays: halladay, no argument here. orioles: jeremy guthrie is usually considerred the ace of the staff, but brad bergesen is the real ace. devil rays: with the trade of kazmir, james shields is considered the ace due to his experience, but jeff niemann should be the ace. tigers: justin verlander is a true ace, but edwin jackson is just as good. verlander is more dominant due to his high strikeout rate. twins: well most considered francisco liriano to be the ace, but he was removed from the rotation due to poor performance. the guy who has been performing all year is nick blackburn. he is the ace of the staff. white sox: jake peavy, no question. before the peavy trade, buehrle was considered the ace, but john danks was the real ace. indians: fausto carmona is usually considered the ace, but he has been horrible. aaron laffey is the real ace. royals: at the beginning of the year, gil meche was the ace. after greinke's amazing season, it has to be greinke. angels: john lackey, even though he's not that great. rangers: kevin millwood is still the ace. i'm not buying into the scott feldman hype. he won more games, but is extremely lucky and has a higher ERA than millwood. mariners: felix hernandez, no doubt. a's: this team started the season with no ace. brett anderson assumes that role now. braves: derek lowe is signed to be the ace after hudson's injury, smoltz's departure, and glavine's release. but jair jurrgens is the best pitcher, javier vazquez is the most dominant, tommy hanson and jurrgens the future co-aces of the franchise. hell, hudson ain't shabby either since coming back. mets: johan santana no question phillies: cole hamels gained a lot of hype last year, but cliff lee is the real ace. before the lee trade, j.a. happ was the ace. hell, i would take pedro over hamels this year. marlins: josh johnson, hands down nationals: john lannan, due to the fact that he is the only competent pitcher of the staff. cardinals: a lot of question surrounding carpenter's health at the beginnign of the year, now its between carpenter and wainwright. i would go with carpenter due to lower ERA, better control, and experience. cubs: zambrano is signed to be the ace, but ted lilly is the real ace. astros: roy oswalt has always been the ace, but he's having a bad year. wandy rodriguez is the ace right now. brewers: their pitchers are jokes. yovani gallardo is the ace cuz everyone else sucks. reds: edinson volquez is considered the ace (at least before he got injured), but bronson arroyo is the real ace. pirates: maholm and duke are usually considered the aces, especially maholm, but ross ohlendorf is the ace. dodgers: billingsley is usually consider the ace (and then its randy wolf after billingsley's struggle), but kershaw is the real ace. rockies: aaron cook is considered the ace after jeff francis' surgery, but ubaldo jiminez is the actual ace. giants: tim lincecum hands down padres: their roster is a joke, so they overachieved this year. chris young is supposed to be the ace after the peavy trade, but right now kevin correia is the ace. d-backs: brandon webb is considered the ace, but right now it's dan haren.
Like the name suggests, the deductible is $3500 and I supposedly pay nothing after that. http://www.individualhealth.com/bluecross/bcc3500.htm Option two is called "Cardinal Care" through the university. It i a whopping $800/qtr, or $3200/yr. However, the benefits are great and the coverage is very comprehensive. $10 co-pay, and $200 deductible and I pay 20% of costs after that. http://www.stanford.edu/group/vaden/insurance/cardinalcare.html Which plan should I opt for? My family might sign up with me if I go for the Anthem one which would decrease the deductible per person. I also don't go to the hospital/doctor very much, but I would like dental/eye benefits. I also pay a health service fee to my school which covers basic medical needs such as medical advice, weekday appointments, urgent care, etc. Thanks!
what is THE STATUS OF WOMAN IN ISLAM ? THE STATUS OF WOMAN IN ISLAM By Jamal A. Badawi CONTENTS PREFACE INTRODUCTION HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVES Women in Ancient Civilization WOMEN IN ISLAM 1. The Spiritual Aspect 2. The Social Aspect (a) As a Child and Adolescent (b) As a Wife (c) As a Mother 3. The Economic Aspect 4. The political Aspect CONCLUSION BIBLIOGRAPHY -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PREFACE Family, society and ultimately the whole of mankind is treated by Islam on an ethical basis. Differentiation in sex is neither a credit nor a drawback for the sexes. Therefore, when we talk about status of woman in Islam it should not lead us to think that Islam has no specific guidelines, limitations, responsibilities and obligations for men. What makes one valuable and respectable in the eyes of Allah, the Creator of mankind and the universe, is neither one's prosperity, position, intelligence, physical strength nor beauty, but only one's Allah-consciousness and awareness (taqwa). However, since in the Western culture and in cultures influenced by it, there exists a disparity between men and women there is more need for stating Islam's position on important issues in a clear way. Dr. Jamal Badawi's essay, The Status of Women in Islam, was originally published in our quarterly journal, Al-lttihad, Vol. 8, No. 2, Sha'ban 1391/Sept 1971. Since then it has been one of our most-demanded publications. We thank Br. Jamal for permitting us to reprint his essay. We hope it will clarify many of the misconceptions. Box 38 Plainfield, IN 46168 USA Jumada al Thani 1400 April 1980 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I. INTRODUCTION The status of women in society is neither a new issue nor is it a fully settled one. The position of Islam on this issue has been among the subjects presented to the Western reader with the least objectivity. This paper is intended to provide a brief and authentic exposition of what Islam stands for in this regard. The teachings of Islam are based essentially on the Qur'an (God's revelation) and Hadeeth (elaboration by Prophet Muhammad). The Qur'an and the Hadeeth, properly and unbiasedly understood, provide the basic source of authentication for any position or view which is attributed to Islam. The paper starts with a brief survey of the status of women in the pre-Islamic era. It then focuses on these major questions: What is the position of Islam regarding the status of woman in society? How similar or different is that position from "the spirit of the time," which was dominant when Islam was revealed? How would this compare with the "rights" which were finally gained by woman in recent decades? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- II. HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVES One major objective of this paper is to provide a fair evaluation of what Islam contributed (or failed to contribute) toward the restoration of woman's dignity and rights. In order to achieve this objective, it may be useful to review briefly how women were treated in general in previous civilizations and religions, especially those which preceded Islam (Pre-610 C.E.). Part of the information provided here, however, describes the status of woman as late as the nineteenth century, more than twelve centuries after Islam. Women in Ancient Civilization Describing the status of the Indian woman, Encyclopedia Britannica states: In India, subjection was a cardinal principle. Day and night must women be held by their protectors in a state of dependence says Manu. The rule of inheritance was agnatic, that is descent traced through males to the exclusion of females. In Hindu scriptures, the description of a good wife is as follows: "a woman whose mind, speech and body are kept in subjection, acquires high renown in this world, and, in the next, the same abode with her husband." In Athens, women were not better off than either the Indian or the Roman women. "Athenian women were always minors, subject to some male - to their father, to their brother, or to some of their male kin. Her consent in marriage was not generally thought to be necessary and "she was obliged to submit to the wishes of her parents, and receive from them her husband and her lord, even though he were stranger to her." A Roman wife was described by an historian as: "a babe, a minor, a ward, a person incapable of doing or acting anything according to her own individual taste, a person continually under the tutelage and guardianship of her husband." In the Encyclopedia Britannica, we find a summary of the legal status of women in the Roman civilization: In Roman Law a woman was even in historic times completely dependent. If married she and her property passed into the power of her husband . . . the wife was the purchased property of her husband, and like a slave acquired only for his benefit. A woman could not exercise any civil or public office . could not be a witness, surety, tutor, or curator; she could not adopt or be adopted, or make will or contract. Among the Scandinavian races women were: under perpetual tutelage, whether married or unmarried. As late as the Code of Christian V, at the end of the 17th Century, it was enacted that if a woman married without the consent of her tutor he might have, if he wished, administration and usufruct of her goods during her life. According to the English Common Law: ...all real property which a wife held at the time of a marriage became a possession of her husband. He was entitled to the rent from the land and to any profit which might be made from operating the estate during the joint life of the spouses. As time passed, the English courts devised means to forbid a husband's transferring real property without the consent of his wife, but he still retained the right to manage it and to receive the money which it produced. As to a wife's personal property, the husband's power was complete. He had the right to spend it as he saw fit. Only by the late nineteenth Century did the situation start to improve. "By a series of acts starting with the Married women's Property Act in 1870, amended in 1882 and 1887, married women achieved the right to own property and to enter contracts on a par with spinsters, widows, and divorcees." As late as the Nineteenth Century an authority in ancient law, Sir Henry Maine, wrote: "No society which preserves any tincture of Christian institutions is likely to restore to married women the personal liberty conferred on them by the Middle Roman Law." In his essay The Subjection of Women, John Stuart Mill wrote: We are continually told that civilization and Christianity have restored to the woman her just rights. Meanwhile the wife is the actual bondservant of her husband; no less so, as far as the legal obligation goes, than slaves commonly so called. Before moving on to the Qur'anic decrees concerning the status of woman, a few Biblical decrees may shed more light on the subject, thus providing a better basis for an impartial evaluation. In the Mosaic Law, the wife was betrothed. Explaining this concept, the Encyclopedia Biblica states: "To betroth a wife to oneself meant simply to acquire possession of her by payment of the purchase money; the betrothed is a girl for whom the purchase money has been paid." From the legal point of view, the consent of the girl was not necessary for the validation of her marriage. "The girl's consent is unnecessary and the need for it is nowhere suggested in the Law." As to the right of divorce, we read in the Encyclopedia Biblica: "The woman being man's property, his right to divorce her follows as a matter of course." The right to divorce was held only by man. "In the Mosaic Law divorce was a privilege of the husband only .... " The position of the Christian Church until recent centuries seems to have been influenced by both the Mosaic Law and by the streams of thought that were dominant in its contemporary cultures. In their book, Marriage East and West, David and Vera Mace wrote: Let no one suppose, either, that our Christian heritage is free of such slighting judgments. It would be hard to find anywhere a collection of more degrading references to the female sex than the early Church Fathers provide. Lecky, the famous historian, speaks of (these fierce incentives which form so conspicuous and so grotesque a portion of the writing of the Fathers . . . woman was represented as the door of hell, as the mother of all human ills. She should be ashamed at the very thought that she is a woman. She should live in continual penance on account of the curses she has brought upon the world. She should be ashamed of her dress, for it is the memorial of her fall. She should be especially ashamed of her beauty, for it is the most potent instrument of the devil). One of the most scathing of these attacks on woman is that of Tertullian: Do you know that you are each an Eve? The sentence of God on this sex of yours lives in this age: the guilt must of necessity live too. You are the devil's gateway: you are the unsealer of that forbidden tree; you are the first deserters of the divine law; you are she who persuades him whom the devil was not valiant enough to attack. You destroyed so easily God's image, man. On account of your desert - that is death - even the Sop of God had to die). Not only did the church affirm the inferior status of woman, it deprived her of legal rights she had previously enjoyed. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- III. WOMAN IN ISLAM In the midst of the darkness that engulfed the world, the divine revelation echoed in the wide desert of Arabia with a fresh, noble, and universal message to humanity: "O Mankind, keep your duty to your Lord who created you from a single soul and from it created its mate (of same kind) and from them twain has spread a multitude of men and women" (Qur'an 4: 1). A scholar who pondered about this verse states: "It is believed that there is no text, old or new, that deals with the humanity of the woman from all aspects with such amazing brevity, eloquence, depth, and originality as this divine decree." Stressing this noble and natural conception, them Qur'an states: He (God) it is who did create you from a single soul and therefrom did create his mate, that he might dwell with her (in love)...(Qur'an 7:189) The Creator of heavens and earth: He has made for you pairs from among yourselves ...Qur'an 42:1 1 And Allah has given you mates of your own nature, and has given you from your mates, children and grandchildren, and has made provision of good things for you. Is it then in vanity that they believe and in the grace of God that they disbelieve? Qur'an 16:72 The rest of this paper outlines the position of Islam regarding the status of woman in society from its various aspects - spiritually, socially, economically and politically. 1. The Spiritual Aspect The Qur'an provides clear-cut evidence that woman iscompletely equated with man in the sight of God interms of her rights and responsibilities. The Qur'an states: "Every soul will be (held) in pledge for its deeds" (Qur'an 74:38). It also states: ...So their Lord accepted their prayers, (saying): I will not suffer to be lost the work of any of you whether male or female. You proceed one from another ...(Qur'an 3: 195). Whoever works righteousness, man or woman, and has faith, verily to him will We give a new life that is good and pure, and We will bestow on such their reward according to the their actions. (Qur'an 16:97, see also 4:124). Woman according to the Qur'an is not blamed for Adam's first mistake. Both were jointly wrong in their disobedience to God, both repented, and both were forgiven. (Qur'an 2:36, 7:20 - 24). In one verse in fact (20:121), Adam specifically, was blamed. In terms of religious obligations, such as the Daily Prayers, Fasting, Poor-due, and Pilgrimage, woman is no different from man. In some cases indeed, woman has certain advantages over man. For example, the woman is exempted from the daily prayers and from fasting during her menstrual periods and forty days after childbirth. She is also exempted from fasting during her pregnancy and when she is nursing her baby if there is any threat to her health or her baby's. If the missed fasting is obligatory (during the month of Ramadan), she can make up for the missed days whenever she can. She does not have to make up for the prayers missed for any of the above reasons. Although women can and did go into the mosque during the days of the prophet and thereafter attendance et the Friday congregational prayers is optional for them while it is mandatory for men (on Friday). This is clearly a tender touch of the Islamic teachings for they are considerate of the fact that a woman may be nursing her baby or caring for him, and thus may be unable to go out to the mosque at the time of the prayers. They also take into account the physiological and psychological changes associated with her natural female functions. 2. The Social Aspect a) As a child and an adolescent Despite the social acceptance of female infanticide among some Arabian tribes, the Qur'an forbade this custom, and considered it a crime like any other murder. "And when the female (infant) buried alive - is questioned, for what crime she was killed." (Qur'an 81:8-9). Criticizing the attitudes of such parents who reject their female children, the Qur'an states: When news is brought to one of them, of (the Birth of) a female (child), his face darkens and he is filled with inward grief! With shame does he hide himself from his people because of the bad news he has had! Shall he retain her on (sufferance) and contempt, or bury her in the dust? Ah! What an evil (choice) they decide on? (Qur'an 16: 58-59). Far from saving the girl's life so that she may later suffer injustice and inequality, Islam requires kind and just treatment for her. Among the sayings of Prophet Muhammad (P.) in this regard are the following: Whosoever has a daughter and he does not bury her alive, does not insult her, and does not favor his son over her, God will enter him into Paradise. (Ibn Hanbal, No. 1957). Whosoever supports two daughters till they mature, he and I will come in the day of judgment as this (and he pointed with his two fingers held together). A similar Hadeeth deals in like manner with one who supports two sisters. (Ibn-Hanbal, No. 2104). The right of females to seek knowledge is not different from that of males. Prophet Muhammad (P.) said: "Seeking knowledge is mandatory for every Muslim". (AlBayhaqi). Muslim as used here including both males and females. b) As a wife: The Qur'an clearly indicates that marriage is sharing between the two halves of the society, and that its objectives, beside perpetuating human life, are emotional well-being and spiritual harmony. Its bases are love and mercy. Among the most impressive verses in the Qur'an about marriage is the following. "And among His signs is this: That He created mates for you from yourselves that you may find rest, peace of mind in them, and He ordained between you love and mercy. Lo, herein indeed are signs for people who reflect." (Qur'an 30:2 1). According to Islamic Law, women cannot be forced to marry anyone without their consent. Ibn Abbas reported that a girl came to the Messenger of God, Muhammad (P.), and she reported that her father had forced her to marry without her consent. The Messenger of God gave her the choice . . . (between accepting the marriage or invalidating it). (Ibn Hanbal No. 2469). In another version, the girl said: "Actually I accept this marriage but I wanted to let women know that parents have no right (to force a husband on them)" (Ibn Maja, No. 1873). Besides all other provisions for her protection at the time of marriage, it was specifically decreed that woman has the full right to her Mahr, a marriage gift, which is presented to her by her husband and is included in the nuptial contract, and that such ownership does not transfer to her father or husband. The concept of Mahr in Islam is neither an actual or symbolic price for the woman, as was the case in certain cultures, but rather it is a gift symbolizing love and affection. The rules for married life in Islam are clear and in harmony with upright human nature. In consideration of the physiological and psychological make-up of man and woman, both have equal rights and claims on one another, except for one responsibility, that of leadership. This is a matter which is natural in any collective life and which is consistent with the nature of man. The Qur'an thus states: "And they (women) have rights similar to those (of men) over them, and men are a degree above them." (Qur'an 2:228). Such degree is Quiwama (maintenance and protection). This refers to that natural difference between the sexes which entitles the weaker sex to protection. It implies no superiority or advantage before the law. Yet, man's role of leadership in relation to his family does not mean the husband's dictatorship over his wife. Islam emphasizes the importance of taking counsel and mutual agreement in family decisions. The Qur'an gives us an example: "...If they (husband wife) desire to wean the child by mutual consent and (after) consultation, there is no blame on them..." (Qur'an 2: 233). Over and above her basic rights as a wife comes the right which is emphasized by the Qur'an and is strongly recommended by the Prophet (P); kind treatment and companionship. The Qur'an states: "...But consort with them in kindness, for if you hate them it may happen that you hate a thing wherein God has placed much good." (Qur'an 4: l9). Prophet Muhammad. (P) said: The best of you is the best to his family and I am the best among you to my family. The most perfect believers are the best in conduct and best of you are those who are best to their wives. (Ibn-Hanbal, No. 7396) Behold, many women came to Muhammad's wives complaining against their husbands (because they beat them) - - those (husbands) are not the best of you. As the woman's right to decide about her marriage is recognized, so also her right to seek an end for an unsuccessful marriage is recognized. To provide for the stability of the family, however, and in order to protect it from hasty decisions under temporary emotional stress, certain steps and waiting periods should be observed by men and women seeking divorce. Considering the relatively more emotional nature of women, a good reason for asking for divorce should be brought before the judge. Like the man, however, the woman can divorce her husband with out resorting to the court, if the nuptial contract allows that. More specifically, some aspects of Islamic Law concerning marriage and divorce are interesting and are worthy of separate treatment. When the continuation of the marriage relationship is impossible for any reason, men are still taught to seek a gracious end for it. The Qur'an states about such cases: When you divorce women, and they reach their prescribed term, then retain them in kindness and retain them not for injury so that you transgress (the limits). (Qur'an 2:231). (See also Qur'an 2:229 and 33:49). c) As a mother: Islam considered kindness to parents next to the worship of God. "And we have enjoined upon man (to be good) to his parents: His mother bears him in weakness upon weakness..." (Qur'an 31:14) (See also Qur'an 46:15, 29:8). Moreover, the Qur'an has a special recommendation for the good treatment of mothers: "Your Lord has decreed that you worship none save Him, and that you be kind to your parents. . ." (Qur'an 17:23). A man came to Prophet Muhammad (P) asking: O Messenger of God, who among the people is the most worthy of my good company? The Prophet (P) said, Your mother. The man said then who else: The Prophet (P) said, Your mother. The man asked, Then who else? Only then did the Prophet (P) say, Your father. (Al-Bukhari and Muslim). A famous saying of The Prophet is "Paradise is at the feet of mothers." (In Al'Nisa'I, Ibn Majah, Ahmad). "It is the generous (in character) who is good to women, and it is the wicked who insults them." 3. The Economic Aspect Islam decreed a right of which woman was deprived both before Islam and after it (even as late as this century), the right of independent ownership. According to Islamic Law, woman's right to her money, real estate, or other properties is fully acknowledged. This right undergoes no change whether she is single or married. She retains her full rights to buy, sell, mortgage or lease any or all her properties. It is nowhere suggested in the Law that a woman is a minor simply because she is a female. It is also noteworthy that such right applies to her properties before marriage as well as to whatever she acquires thereafter. With regard to the woman's right to seek employment it should be stated first that Islam regards her role in society as a mother and a wife as the most sacred and essential one. Neither maids nor baby-sitters can possibly take the mother's place as the educator of an upright, complex free, and carefully-reared children. Such a noble and vital role, which largely shapes the future of nations, cannot be regarded as "idleness". However, there is no decree in Islam which forbids woman from seeking employment whenever there is a necessity for it, especially in positions which fit her nature and in which society needs her most. Examples of these professions are nursing, teaching (especially for children), and medicine. Moreover, there is no restriction on benefiting from woman's exceptional talent in any field. Even for the position of a judge, where there may be a tendency to doubt the woman's fitness for the post due to her more emotional nature, we find early Muslim scholars such as Abu-Hanifa and Al-Tabary holding there is nothing wrong with it. In addition, Islam restored to woman the right of inheritance, after she herself was an object of inheritance in some cultures. Her share is completely hers and no one can make any claim on it, including her father and her husband. "Unto men (of the family) belongs a share of that which Parents and near kindred leave, and unto women a share of that which parents and near kindred leave, whether it be a little or much - a determinate share." ((Qur'an 4:7). Her share in most cases is one-half the man's share, with no implication that she is worth half a man! It would seem grossly inconsistent after the overwhelming evidence of woman's equitable treatment in Islam, which was discussed in the preceding pages, to make such an inference. This variation in inheritance rights is only consistent with the variations in financial responsibilities of man and woman according to the Islamic Law. Man in Islam is fully responsible for the maintenance of his wife, his children, and in some cases of his needy relatives, especially the females. This responsibility is neither waived nor reduced because of his wife's wealth or because of her access to any personal income gained from work, rent, profit, or any other legal means. Woman, on the other hand, is far more secure financially and is far less burdened with any claims on her possessions. Her possessions before marriage do not transfer to her husband and she even keeps her maiden name. She has no obligation to spend on her family out of such properties or out of her income after marriage. She is entitled to the "Mahr" which she takes from her husband at the time of marriage. If she is divorced, she may get an alimony from her ex-husband. An examination of the inheritance law within the overall framework of the Islamic Law reveals not only justice but also an abundance of compassion for woman. 4. The Political Aspect Any fair investigation of the teachings of Islam o~ into the history of the Islamic civilization will surely find a clear evidence of woman's equality with man in what we call today "political rights". This includes the right of election as well as the nomination to political offices. It also includes woman's right to participate in public affairs. Both in the Qur'an and in Islamic history we find examples of women who participated in serious discussions and argued even with the Prophet (P) himself, (see Qur'an 58: 14 and 60: 10-12). During the Caliphate of Omar Ibn al-Khattab, a woman argued with him in the mosque, proved her point, and caused him to declare in the presence of people: "A woman is right and Omar is wrong." Although not mentioned in the Qur'an, one Hadeeth of the Prophet is interpreted to make woman ineligible for the position of head of state. The Hadeeth referred to is roughly translated: "A people will not prosper if they let a woman be their leader." This limitation, however, has nothing to do with the dignity of woman or with her rights. It is rather, related to the natural differences in the biological and psychological make-up of men and women. According to Islam, the head of the state is no mere figurehead. He leads people in the prayers, especially on Fridays and festivities; he is continuously engaged in the process of decision-making pertaining to the security and well-being of his people. This demanding position, or any similar one, such as the Commander of the Army, is generally inconsistent with the physiological and psychological make-up of woman in general. It is a medical fact that during their monthly periods and during their pregnancies, women undergo various physiological and psychological changes. Such changes may occur during an emergency situation, thus affecting her decision, without considering the excessive strain which is produced. Moreover, some decisions require a maximum of rationality and a minimum of emotionality - a requirement which does not coincide with the instinctive nature of women. Even in modern times, and in the most developed countries, it is rare to find a woman in the position of a head of state acting as more than a figurehead, a woman commander of the armed services, or even a proportionate number of women representatives in parliaments, or similar bodies. One can not possibly ascribe this to backwardness of various nations or to any constitutional limitation on woman's right to be in such a position as a head of state or as a member of the parliament. It is more logical to explain the present situation in terms of the natural and indisputable differences between man and woman, a difference which does not imply any "supremacy" of one over the other. The difference implies rather the "complementary" roles of both the sexes in life. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- IV. CONCLUSION The first part of this paper deals briefly with the position of various religions and cultures on the issue under investigation. Part of this exposition extends to cover the general trend as late as the nineteenth century, nearly 1300 years after the Qur'an set forth the Islamic teachings. In the second part of the paper, the status of women in Islam is briefly discussed. Emphasis in this part is placed on the original and authentic sources of Islam. This represents the standard according to which degree of adherence of Muslims can be judged. It is also a fact that during the downward cycle of Islamic Civilization, such teachings were not strictly adhered to by many people who profess to be Muslims. Such deviations were unfairly exaggerated by some writers, and the worst of this, were superficially taken to represent the teachings of "Islam" to the Western reader without taking the trouble to make any original and unbiased study of the authentic sources of these teachings. Even with such deviations three facts are worth mentioning: 1. The history of Muslims is rich with women of great achievements in all walks of life from as early as the seventh century (B.C.) 2. It is impossible for anyone to justify any mistreatment of woman by any decree of rule embodied in the Islamic Law, nor could anyone dare to cancel, reduce, or distort the clear-cut legal rights of women given in Islamic Law. 3. Throughout history, the reputation, chastity and maternal role of Muslim women were objects of admiration by impartial observers. It is also worthwhile to state that the status which women reached during the present era was not achieved due to the kindness of men or due to natural progress. It was rather achieved through a long struggle and sacrifice on woman's part and only when society needed her contribution and work, more especial!; during the two world wars, and due to the escalation of technological change. In the case of Islam such compassionate and dignified status was decreed, not because it reflects the environment of the seventh century, nor under the threat or pressure of women and their organizations, but rather because of its intrinsic truthfulness. If this indicates anything, it would demonstrate the divine origin of the Qur'an and the truthfulness of the message of Islam, which, unlike human philosophies and ideologies, was far from proceeding from its human environment, a message which established such humane principles as neither grew obsolete during the course of time and after these many centuries, nor can become obsolete in the future. After all, this is the message of the All-Wise and all-knowing God whose wisdom and knowledge are far beyond the ultimate in human thought and progress.

Here we go AFC East 14-2 Patriots - They won't be perfect again, but still the best in there division 6-10 Bills- They have some talent in the offense, but lackluster offense and redzone ability will hold them back. 5-11 Jets- Trading for favre was one of the stupidest things i have EVER seen, get real, you think he can fit into an offense especially as complex as mangini's and excel? YEAH right, vintage 2004-2006 favre jets fans. 3-13 Dolphins- There rebuilding from last years mess, should steal some games with their running attack. AFC North 10-6 Pittsburgh- Great skill position players, loving mendenhall and parker combo, but the weak offensive line will hold them back. 9-7 Browns- Very good offense with one of the best offensive lines in football, crap defense unfortunately will provide theyre undoing. 8-8 Bengals- Again great offense, with bad defense does not equal anything better than a decent avg. season. 6-10 Ravens- With slim pickings @ QB and aging defense, this is going to be a rebuilding year. AFC South 12-4 Colts perennial division winner will be pushed but still edge out the Jags. If Mannings injury lingers though, Jag takes it EASILY. 11-5 Jaguars- Very good team, will push the colts, but still lack the skill @ wideout to be considered explosive enough to hang with the big boys of the AFC like the Pats and Colts. 9-7 Texans- Andre johnson and Matt schaub make one of the most exciting QB/WR tandems in the league and Mario williams and demeco ryans are great. If it weren't for their insane division, they'd prob go 10-6. 6-10 Titans- Yes the defense is great and vince young is a playmaker, but if your QB cannot pass the ball your doomed. More Ints than Tds in both of your starting seasons, yeah ill pass, picking young over lienart or Cutler was an incredible failure. AFC West 11-5 Chargers- too much talent to fail and a year under norv turner to know the offense. Will be pushed by the broncos, but have too much firepower to lose. 10-6 Broncos- People forget this team was a super bowl contendor 2 seasons ago with arguably a worse Line and a worse QB. Watch Cutler and Marshall to Light up the league in vein of Johnson/Schaub or Delhomme Smith, and whoever wins the RB carousel to excel. Not good enough to beat the chargers, but considering all that happened to them last year including diabetes and injuries, a definite return to form. 6-10 Chiefs- The rebuilding project continues, watch croyle and bowe to do in vein of Cutler and Marshall last year. LJ is on the decline somewhat, but they should be pretty good rushing the ball. Give them 2 years to return to the playoffs and prominence. 4-12 Raiders- What a mess, Al Davis has no clue what he is doing by drafting mcfadden. Theyll be great @ rushing the ball, but with jamarcus russell appearing to be the 2nd coming of akili smith, dont get your hopes up raiders fans. Suspect Rush defense will also negate the great raider pass defense. NFC East 14-2 Cowboys- They just have to much talent at too many positions, props to Jerry jones for taking a risk on pacman and johnson, will pay massive dividends. Should finally get over the hump and get into the big game. 10-6 Redskins- Campbell has slowly risen quietly to becoming one of hte more promising QBs in the league, and portis has always been good. Losing Taylor hurt, but if this team can stay healthy, it should make it to the wildcard round of the playoffs. 9-7 Giants- Last year was a fluke, and combined with the gutting of there Defense, loss of there best tight end, the Giants will become hardpressed to return to the offseason. If the new comes to the defense can impress, than add another win and a wildcard spot. 6-10 Eagles- Yes they have Mcnabb and yes they have westbrook, but asside from that its slim pickings. And considering the injury proneness of both of their stars, this team is in a whole lots of trouble. NFC North 10-6 Vikings- Yes a monkey could pass the ball better than tarvaris, but this team has too much talent on both sides of hte ball to lose in this weak division. With argubly the leagues best defense, and best offensive line, and a star in adrian peterson, its theirs to lose. 9-7 Packers- Yes losing brett favre hurts, but i see aaron rodgers doing akin to Romo in Dallas a few years ago. Very talented offensive team, but will have trouble unseating the vikings because of the talent gap. Definitely a wildcard though. 8-8 Lions- Dynamite offense, but needs to get rid of kitna, his turnovers, or preferably both. Lack of defense hurts, but this team will be fun to watch in 2008-2009. 2-14 Bears- how the might of fallen, terrible Qb battle, and lack of overall talent has the bears at the cellar of not only the NFC, but the league NFC South Saints 9-7- they will return to form somewhat, but it largely hinges on reggie bush's development combined with Deuce's health. Buccanears- 8-8 decent team with a good coach should finish second, but questions @ QB, WR2 could pose a threat. Earnest Graham will be key. Panthers 8-8, the Delhomme to Smith connection will bail this team out along with Stewart, but the Defense has been gutted hard, and it will show in shootouts vs other offensive juggernauts. They need more talent badly and Peppers to return with a vengeance. If he does, they could win the division. Falcons 1-15- no talent rookie qb questions on the defensive and offensive lines will lead to lots of groans in the ATL, they could possibly win up to 3 games with michael turners talent, but dont look for anything special down here. NFC West Seahawks 11-5 must be nice to play in footballs weakest division. Again steamrolls the competition, but question marks @ rb are worrisome for postseason. Rams 9-7 Last year was a fluke because of the injuries, this team still is HIGHLY talented offensively and should score alot, look for them to rebound and take a wildcard spot. Cardinals 8-8 This team just doesn't make sense to me, with so much talent it should stomp this division, but seeing as it hasnt for years, i have them going .500. Leinart will be key, but i just dont see him exploding like cutler, but hell be better than vince " i have an IQ of 7" young. 49ers 6-10 this will largely hinge on the QB situation, if they can get it together, they have enough talent to win the division, but if Alex Smith prooves to be a big bust, its over. Playoffs AFC Patriots Colts Chargers Steelers Jaguars- WC Broncos- WC NFC Cowboys Seahawks Vikings Saints Rams- WC Redskins- WC RD1 Chargers over broncos by a huge ammount Jaguars beat the Steelers, offensive line will unravel Vikings beat redskins with AP leading the way, and there defense rattling Campbell Saints beat Rams in an offensive shootout, Itll be close, but i think the Saints are more talented than the Rams, and have a slightly better defense. RD2 Pats over Chargers - choke artists show up Jaguars over Colts- power running game eats the clock and the Colts with it. Considering the Jags are built to beat the colts, this will be vindication of there efforts Cowboys over Saints: superior talent on each side of the ball will lead to a rout. Vikings over Seahawks- Vikings defense will shutdown the offense, and yet again AP all the way. Championship Games NE over Jax 34-24, NE's WR's are just too much of Jax to handle, Randy moss in the corner of the end zone with a jumpball is just unfair. Cowboys over Vikings 45-17 Cowboys will turn this into a throwing shootout, something Tarvaris jackson just cant compete toe to toe with. Superbowl Pats over Cowboys 38-31 High scoring game, but Pats are matchup beasts and i think they just have a slight edge and will find ways to rattle romo. Still a very close game. Thoughts? and no I am not a Pats or Cowboy Fan. you could flipflop the rams or Packers, neither would get out of the WC round

Is there a cure for unrequited love?
Born Again Christians Please: Condoms? Cardinals, bishops, priests and nuns in four continents say that condoms have tiny holes through which HIV can escape and infect the other person. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/3176982.stm As a Born Again Christian I would like to share my own experience. Recently I returned from a solo holiday in Thailand and was shocked to find I had genital warts. Its just that one day I had lent a pair of my underpants to another man. He had an accident in his due to the strong food. Then I forgot to wash the pants. The genital wart virus must have sat on the pants and then infected me. My wife and I went to the doctor who asked if I had sex with any bar girls. You can imagine my disgust at this slur on my reputation. The doctor said this form of infection was impossible, in front of my wife. He also told me to wear condoms. But if the church says that condoms have holes in them, then surely infection by underpants is possible. Should we listen to science or the church of God?
We Wish You A Joyous And Peaceful 2009? The College of Cardinals takes this opportunity to wish everyone here: A Joyous and Peaceful 2009. May you find Happiness in all your endeavours. May the pain and sorrow of years past fade, and be replaced with Friendship, Brotherhood and Love. And May Our Sovereign Lord, The Almighty Father continue to Bless You and Keep You Safe. May the Wisdom of Ages and the Exuberance of Youth be your constant partners. And may our Bishop in Rome, Pope Benedict XVI, continue to lead us in good health and wisdom. Happy New Year
50 US gallon Fish-tank? Hi there, I have a 50 US gallon Fish-tank which I left to cycle for more than 2 months with only 5 male guppies in it. after that every month I added some more fish, six months later I have the following numbers: 3 honey Gouramies 2 Dwarfs 2 labiosa 12 cardinals 10 Neons 8 nerite snails 12 Amano shrimps 2 african filter shrimps 2 siamese algae eaters 2 Badis Badis 3 Angels So basically my question is, is the amount of living creatures I have in there too much? they all seem to be doing great are all health and so far I only lost 2 ottos ( they are kind of hard to get healthy ones that are eating from pet shops anyway) can I have anything else in there? First I want to thank you all for taking the time to give me some advise. Just want to give some more info about the tank, as I said the fishes have been placed there over a period of 6 months after a cycle of 2 months (more than enough) and that in these six months I have only lost 2 fishes (pretty ok), I have a good filter system with capacity for 400 liters which would be good for a tank twice as big as the one I have which is 200 liters ( I am European and use the metric system) over these months I have not had any outbreaks od desease nor algae, I do a 20% water change weakly and provide my fish with a varied died of , flakes of the best quality, spirulina tablets, freese dried artemias and mosquito larvae, frozen and live foods, maybe I am just lucky but things seem to be going good, or maybe they are here still for the love I have for them! off course I wouldn't want them to suffer only for my own pleasure and will buy a bigger tank when the time comes, for now the angels babies just one more thing, please forgive me for my broken english
Is immigration out of control? Anthony Browne says Britain is already overcrowded, and that pro-immigration arguments are almost all flawed. Something strange is happening when a left-wing government publicly accuses the BBC, riddled with institutionalised political correctness, -of can you think of a more wounding insult?- a “Powellite anti-immigration agenda”. The Pope publicly denouncing one of his cardinals as a Satanist would hardly be more surprising. It is not just cats of the postwar fractured Left scratching each other's eyes out; David Blunkett s intemperate outburst was in reality an admission that he is losing the most important political argument of the day. It is not only that Britain doesn’t want mass immigration but that, despite the government's attempts to persuade us that we need it, even parts of the BBC are finally waking up to see that there are real problems. If it s Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, it must be Heathrow The fact that the BBC found the courage to reflect the concerns of its licence-fee payers is a clear sign that the tide has turned in the immigration debate. The presenter of the programme, John Ware, declared in the Daily Mail that the BBC could no longer sew up its lips on the issue, and that anyone with an open mind has to face up to it. Unfortunately for the government, more and more people on both the Left and the Right are becoming open-minded on the problems of the government's policy of actively encouraging mass immigration. The pro-immigrationists trusty tactic of suppressing all inconvenient truth and debate by denouncing all critics as racist, fascist or xenophobic just isn’t working: there are too many intellectually honest people who can see that baseless insults aren’t answers to real problems. The subject of immigration has been taboo in Britain since Enoch Powell s infamous speech a third of a century ago: there has not, until a few months ago, been one debate in Parliament about the optimal types and scale of immigration, only debates on the minutiae of immigration laws. Everyone agreed to that silence so as to promote good community relations. But the government took advantage of the taboo to overturn 30 years of policy which aimed for zero primary immigration, claiming that it wants about 150,000 immigrants a year. Labour, in its self-righteous arrogance, performed this remarkable U-turn confident that no one would break the taboo. When I started writing in the Times about the economic and demographic consequences of mass immigration, Blunkett denounced me by name in Parliament as bordering on fascism. I was contacted by Sir Andrew Green, the former ambassador to Saudi Arabia, who had just set up a lobby-group, Migration Watch UK, to curb immigration, and wrote a profile of his new group. Ever since, Blunkett has been denouncing it as “right-wing” and “tin-pot”, despite the fact that its advisory council consists of former ambassadors, former heads of the government's immigration service, several professors, a Sri Lankan law lecturer and a Sudanese businessman. The trouble for the government is that while promoting mass immigration might make people feel cosmopolitan and modern, and calling critics racist may make people feel virtuous, few of the consequences of mass immigration have been thought through. The long immigration silence has meant that all negative consequences of migration have been suppressed, and only the positive aspects talked about. If you blind yourself to all negative consequences of a complex policy, you are bound to conclude that it is a thoroughly good thing and want as much of it as possible. Civil servants sat with ministers discussing all the good things about immigration without anyone daring to think any of the bad things, and they concluded that the borders should be pushed wide open. This state of immigration denial has led the government to develop an ostrich attitude to many of the damaging consequences of its open-border policy, where it ―and the left-wing media normally including the BBC― are psychologically almost incapable of being intellectually honest. It was only after the continued, hysterical screaming of most of the tabloid media that the government and other pro-immigrationists conceded there might be a problem with widespread abuse of the asylum system. Likewise, the government refused to accept that mass immigration from disease-prone countries brings in diseases until a piece I wrote for this magazine caused a storm of protest (and the usual smearing), and the government was provoked into reviewing the need for immigrant health tests. But there are many other issues that the government still refuses to face up to: 1. Mass immigration hugely exacerbates the housing crisis. When Migration Watch produced a report last week saying that levels of immigration would require 1.8 million extra homes by 2021, the government threw insults, said the figures were plucked out of thin air and refused to produce its own forecasts. In fact, Migration Watch simply used the government's own housing methodology, and the Housebuilders Federation says immigration is a leading driver in the demand for new housing. The Office of the Deputy Prime Minister, responsible for housing, is taking away the rights of communities to refuse to have housing imposed on them, and yet refuses to admit that there is any connection between immigration and housing demand. The amount of housing needed is so vast that it will be impossible for the government to build its way out of this crisis. Like importing an HIV epidemic from Africa, this is an issue that won t go away. 2. Britain is already overcrowded: it is one of the most densely populated islands in the world; twice as densely populated as France and eight times as densely populated as America ―and increasing population density damages quality of life. Already, we can t find space for new airports, roads, prisons and asylum centres. It is not just millions of new houses, but the new infrastructure of roads, hospitals, schools, water supplies and other utilities. Our public transport system is ridiculously overstretched and roads are excessively congested. The government has embarked on a programme of population growth through immigration that will push the population up from 60 million to 66 million by 2031 but it refuses even to talk about the consequences of this. 3. Mass immigration -as opposed to limited immigration of skilled workers to meet shortages- damages the employment prospects of those already here, particularly the unskilled. The Home Office commissioned an economic study on the impact of immigration, which found that an increase in immigration amounting to 1 per cent of the non-immigrant population would lead to an increase of 0.18 percentage points in the non-immigrant unemployment rate. However, in an extraordinary act of politically correct immigration denial, the immigration minister Beverley Hughes issued a press release saying, ‘The research shows that it is simply not true that migrants “take the jobs” of the existing work force’. However, London, where most immigrants come, has become the unemployment black spot of Britain, with 7 per cent joblessness, higher than any region of the UK. There is such a large pool of cheap labour that, for the first time ever, national chains such as McDonald s and Burger King are no longer paying their highest rates in central London. Shop shelf-fillers now earn 10 per cent less in London than the average for the rest of the country. The world s leading expert on the economics of migration, Professor George Borjas of Harvard University, complains that everyone is happy to accept that increasing labour supply reduces wages in all circumstances except when it comes to immigration, when they enter denial. 4. Imposing mass immigration on a society that doesn’t want it damages relations between the communities that are already here. If people are opposed to the immigration policy, they are likely to be opposed to the people it brings in and will often confuse immigrants with those born here. The old wisdom that a firm but fair immigration policy is essential for good race relations has been forgotten by the government. Refusing to address legitimate concerns forces voters into the hands of extremist parties such as the British National party. 5. Mass immigration increases inequality in society by increasing the wealth of those who employ immigrants (who tend already to be rich) and reducing that of those who compete with them (who tend to be poor). The US government has estimated that half the rise in income inequality in the US is due to mass immigration. 6. Mass immigration is no solution to an ageing society, because immigrants grow old at just the same pace as non-immigrants. One of the country's top pension experts, Professor David Miles, said that trying to solve the pension crisis by importing more people is “madness”. 7. Mass migration of unskilled workers promotes low-skilled, low-wage industries and reduces economic productivity. Alan Greenspan told the Senate earlier this year that labour shortages in the US in the last century, when immigration was very low, forced companies to innovate and was the main reason why productivity in the US overtook that of Europe. Importing unskilled labour did nothing to save the textile mills of the north of England, and this disastrous policy has left behind impoverished, bitterly divided communities. 8. Much if not most of the supposedly temporary migration such as student visas, holiday working visas and seasonal agricultural workers is permanent because the dream of life in the West is so powerful for so many from the poor parts of the world. The government has no controls to ensure that those it invites in actually leave. 9. White flight is ghettoising Britain’s cities and fragmenting communities. A totally unpublicised report commissioned by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister last year found that white flight was now a leading cause of internal migration in the UK. In London as a whole, white Britons account for just 60 per cent of the population, and for fewer than half the population in six London boroughs. Mass immigration from the Third World to the cities exacerbates white flight, but the government refuses to face up to the consequences. Professor Robert Putnam, author of the celebrated Bowling Alone, which is about the decline of community spirit in the US, has found that the more ethnically diverse a population, the less sense of community there is. The government may not face up to these issues, but an increasing number of people are doing so. Bob Rowthorn, the left-wing professor of economics at Cambridge, dismisses all the economic arguments and opposes mass immigration on the grounds that all people have a right to decide their culture; Geoff Dench of the left-wing Institute of Community Studies in London's East End opposes mass immigration because of the welfare loss to the white working class, and because it is so damaging to race relations; Professor Lord Layard, the designer of Labour s welfare-to-work programme, has warned of the damaging impact on the unskilled; Ruth Lea, the head of policy at the Institute of Directors, has called on government to reduce immigration ―she insists businesses must look beyond the short-term profits of cheap labour, and look at the long-term social and economic consequences. As the taboo about immigration is broken, more people are becoming more open-minded about it. The government will eventually be forced to face reality and to curb its addiction to mass immigration. It is just a question of how much pain it puts the country through and how much it sacrifices the working classes and race relations before it does so.
SERIOUS QUESTIONS: About the Pope and Vatican City...Read Details? The Pope is the head of an "Absolute Monarchy"...Which, outside of a few minor laws, is comparable to a dictatorship. Put your gavels down and keep the stones in your pockets for a minute. My question is simple. The Pope is a Gov't Leader officially, so then are the members of the catholic church's Heirarchy (cardinals, bishops, priests, etc) essentailly ambassadors to the countries in which they reside? Also. Why isn't Vatican City part of the U.N.? They have a military (138 members, but still). They have a government. They have departments of state (health, finance, transportation, etc). So wouldn't that mean they could have sanctions put on them by the UN? So there's some questions. What are you're thoughts? I'm not attacking anybody, I was doing some reading, and this thought came to mind. Links: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vatican_City#Head_of_State http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Absolute_monarchy http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dictatorship Just as a side note...some of you are reading into things a bit much, and missing a few points. The pope IS an absolute monarch...that is a fact, it can't be changed. The Secretary of State and the Holy See have representative power to act in the pope's place being that the pope is concerned with things like...his church. He still retains absolute legislative and judicial power. Apparently though, there is disagreement as to if the Vatican has a seat in the UN or not...Which is it? Edit your answers if you wish, just make a note so i know you edited it.
Brand new platy fry... Help!? Okay so I have a 30 gallon tank with 10 cardinals and about 5 or 6 platys (don't know any of the genders, although 4 of the platys always look pregnant). About a month ago, there was about 30 platy babies that ended up all being eaten. I now have a new set of fry about the same amount, and I moved them into a fish bowl all by themselves with water from the main tank. Now that I have them, I don't have a clue on how to care for them! My questions are: -Do I change their water? (It's a bit dirty, but I don't want to stress them out so that they die on me) -should I keep them in the bowl or put them into their own tank with a filter and bubbler and how do I keep them from being sucked up into the filter? -What do I feed them and how much? -What amount of lighting do they need to be healthy? -Can they start hurting each other if they are in close quarters? (I have 3 more platy's looking like they are about to explode and would have to combine the future fry with the others) -How can I tell if they have health concerns? and any other advice about them!! Thanks alot, any help would be great!

Why do Catholics refuse to accept this ~long~? my country (Ireland) suffered a great deal under the grip of the Catholic church. -In the 1930's the Minister of Health and Education wanted to set up a scheme to provide free health care for mothers and children, but the Catholic church had him kicked out of his job because they thought, as a Protestant, he was trying to permit contraceptives. The man was actually trained as a doctor and had introduced excellent schemes. We still do not have a free health care and its 50 euros just to see the GP. -Up until the early 1990's, women could not get contraceptives, because this was against Catholic church policy- even if that woman was not Catholic.A woman had to say she had period problems to get the pill in the 1980's.When people went to Northern Ireland and purchased contraceptives, they were bodily removed from them and could be arrested. It was seen as acceptable to rescue a baby and not the woman during pregnancy, all for the sake of big families. -Until the early 1990's, women were considered ACTUAL PROPERTY of their husbands!!The Catholic priests approved of that! -Magdalene Laundries were run for illegitimate children and single mothers. The laundries were notorious for being abusive and if a woman ran away, the police hunted them down!Rape victims were send there, but the rapists were let free, because the Catholic church preached that all women, like Eve, are temptresses and were "asking for it".The laundry laundry closed as late as 1996! -Abortion was and is, not allowed.Only a few rape victims are sent to England for abortion.A 14 yr old rape victim was not allowed this a year ago until she threatened to commit suicide. -When the sex abuse scandals emerged the Catholic church's Cardinal in Ireland refused to apologize to the victims and preferred to loose his position rather than apologize. He even told friends that he is prepared to go to jail rather than release confidential diocesan files. It seems he knew about the abusers and just shuffled them from one diocese to the next! *My question is what won't Catholics accept this?Any time its brought up by anyone here on YA! the Catholics try to get it removed and give thumbs it down, just for telling the truth. These things they are sadly, true.* Here are just a few links for those who doubt me: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magdalene_Asylum http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2003/08/08/sunday/main567365.shtml http://www.guardian.co.uk/culture/2003/feb/07/artsfeatures http://magdalenelaundrytestimony.moonfruit.com/ http://www.irishcatholic.ie/d5/content/archbishop-clerical-abuse-staggering http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roman_Catholic_sex_abuse_cases http://www.cardinalrating.com/cardinal_20__article_6641.htm http://www.oneinfour.org/news/news2004/carddesconnell/ http://www.independent.ie/national-news/cardinal-is-accused-of-abuse-files-coverup-1278557.html Well, Adam even if you don't like it, it's till true. That's not a valid reason to report me.And no, I don't hate Catholics, they are generally nice people and tend to give a lot to charity.I am just disgusted at how the Catholic church treats people. You haven't explained why you have problems accepting what the Catholic church did to my country? Even if abortion and the use of contraceptives is wrong, you cannot force it on everybody in the country. That's no different to Saudi Arabia forcing a hijab on every woman, whether see believes in wearing one or not.The church should be separated from the state. Korban, I am not Protestant and I am equally sorry to hear about what happened your mother. I do not approve of Ian Paisley at all, he claims he is a man of God and then sprouted hatred against ordinary, decent Catholics. I don't hear however of Protestant churches committing such crimes against Protestant people.I hate what the Catholic church has done, but I that doesn't mean I hate Catholic people.Like I said they are decent people. Layla Noor, please don't think that ordinary Catholics are like this. Its just the Catholic church. Most Catholics are pretty decent.

We've recently moved and our current memembership with Bally's total fitness was cancel because there isn't a location anywhere near us.
