My dog is very ill and we are at a point of loss to why.?
3 days ago my Maltese cross fell ill and we took her to the vet. She is 7 years old and had always been a very healthy dog. Her symptoms are as follows: 1. Very week 2. Not eating 3. Heart rate of 42 4. Oxygenation level of 89 5. Not parsing any poo 6. Vomiting a yellow mucus She has been at the veterinarian clinic for three days on a drip to keep her hydrated and in some form of health. A blood test indicated there is no organ failure, an xray and ultra sound to check for a blockage in her intestine which has shown a clear passage. She has had another blood test today which will either eliminate or confirm thyroid problems. We love Peigi as part of the family and I would be very appreciative if anyone has any ideas on what this could be. She is running out of time. Thanks.

- could this be parvo? Parvovirus (Parvo) Parvovirus is a highly contagious disease that inflicts adult dogs, but mostly concentrates on puppies. The disease is so serious that it could take the life of a dog within 48 to 72 hours after they are exposed. If owners see their dogs are suffering from depression, loss of appetite, severe diarrhea, and vomiting, parvo might be the cause.
- Could be some sort of chemical exposure - ask the vet to run a blood panel for toxic chemical exposures. It could also be a bacterial or viral infection - again ask for a panel to be run - even if it is just to rule it out.
- If money isn't an object you could try taking here to a more advanced clinic for a second opinion. Sometimes one vet can find nothing while another with more experience or such may have had a case similar and knows what to look for/do. It couldn't hurt to get a second opinion once the first vet rules out all possibilities. Also....could she have gotten into a chemical of some sort? if she hasn't been eating she will not pass much in the way of bowels and won't have any stomach contents to bring up. Other than that....I wish you well and hope you find a solution!
- She sounds dehydrated - has she been vacinnated for Parvo?
