Hit my head hard but seem to be ok - help?!?

About 12 hours ago I was playing with my dog on the floor (lying down) and was close to a door frame and my dog jumped at me and I moved back really hard and hit the back of my head on the left side on the door frame. I remember what happened before and after the hit, and I haven't had any crazy symptoms such as vomiting or personality change or vision blurriness, but I have a dull headache. I have taken a nap since then as well and have been able to be woke up without any problems. The only thing is the dull headache and just alittle sensation of heaviness. I have no health insurance right now but I do have Medicaid as I am six months pregnant. Would Medicaid cover a trip to the ER or a CT Scan? I doubt it. It's a shame that I have to worry about dying all because I can't afford an ER visit. I know head trauma is nothing to play around with... but I don't seem to have any crazy symptoms yet. Help??

  1. If it's a medical necessity then Medicaid should cover it. Your local ER should have an emergency answering service that provides a nurse for you to talk to before coming to the ER. Remember you're caring for you and your baby. Medicaid should also have an answering service for you to contact to ask whether they'd cover it. You shouldn't have to worry about dying because you can't afford an ER visit, but sadly, that's how this country operates. And there are a lot of people that abuse the ER for non-valid reasons and who never intend to pay. You have a valid reason, and if worst comes to worst, the hospital will work out a payment plan for you. If you have an urgent care center or something for emergencies that's open on the weekends, I'd try there first. But try to contact the nurse hotline that should be provided by the hospital. You can also contact local EMS for them to provide that number if you can't find it. They should have a non-emergency number (i.e. don't call 911!) for you to call and be able to ask that. Good luck!
  2. Get someone to check and see if your pupils are the same size that is a symptom of head injury.
