Dangers of phenylalanine?
I have found a great deal of info on the web about the dangers of aspartame, which contains 50% phenylalanine. But what about all the products that are just using phenylalanine as a substitute for sugar? What are the dangers of phenylalanine, on its own, not as a part of aspartame? Should we cut it out of our diets completely?

- Cutting it out of your diet is impossible it is in so many things. It is truly not bad, the problem comes if you are born with a defect called PKU. This is tested in every newborn by a blood test. If you have it you are unable to break down Phenylalanine which can build up causing mental retardation, and death in toxic amounts. Hope this is helpful to you.
- Some believe it could cause Phenylketonuria (PKU). People with the disorder are directed not to use products containing Pheylalanine. See the enclosed website to learn more about it.
- some say that it is a carcinogine (cancer causing) but to cut it out completely would be very dificult for it is in many things.
