How long will it take to get my birth certificate from California Department Health?

I sent for my Birth Certificate to California Department of Health Services Office of Vital Records on December 11. How long will it take to get my birth certificate? I need my birth certificate to get my passport. And why does it take them 6 weeks to send?

1. With Homeland Insecurity running rampant, everything is screwed. As of next year you will need a national Identity document and a passport just to cross the border into like Tijuana for a day. I could fill a page with horror stories dealing with this nonsense, but I would probably start cursing just thinking about it and my landlady would evict me. There is no longer a set answer as to how long it takes. I would say find their 1-800 number and keep on their case until they answer, but with so many people being left in the lurch, you would probably spend hours on hold before getting to talk to a human. 2. well, it took me 3 weeks when i sent for it the first time . but had to get another one when i moved, and found out that there is a long prossess now that you have to go though best way is if you have a father or mother or child living there then thay can go to the co you where born and request it. thay can get it for you same day.
3. If you are alive it should take only 4 to sic weeks , if you are legally dead it will take longer.
4. If you know the county where you were born, it is very probable that you can get this a LOT faster by going the proper county agency, rather than the State. If it is nearby, you can probably even go in person, or at least make the request on line, rather than have to go through the mail as you do with the State. To find that information, if you put in "birth certificate county" and the county name into Google, you should find the right place in the first link or two.
