Verify if there is such a thing as a Health card class issed by Health department in California?

QUESTION: Is there such a thing as a health card in California or not? There is some discrepancy and gray area due to different states having different laws, OK: a Health card, being a card issued by the health department after taking a short class on clean and safe food and beverage handling procedures in the food industry for the purpose of obtaining employment (also requires a blood test for Hep.) The health card DOES exist in Las Vegas and it is almost mandatory to work anywhere around food or drink, but does it exist in CA is my question, and is it something that may be to the benefit of a bartender to get. Do you think the health department issues these, or the department of health services? If they even exist in CA.

  1. There is no health card required for most culinary employees in California. California requires that business owners and/or management staff have a certificate in safe food handling. In general, if you are a chef, you should get one, otherwise no big deal. The class for the certificate is offered by many California community colleges, culinary schools, and businesses that specialize in training and testing. It's easy to find schools that offer the course and test online. Compliance is monitored by the county health departments.
