Mend Your Diet

Anorexia????

I've heard about all the effects of anorexia: your hair, your teeth, and nails will become weak and brittle, and you WILL die. or if you just stop eating, the weight loss is only temporary and you will gain it all back. If this is so, then why do celebrites who suffer eating disorders like Nichole Richie and Mary-Kate Olsen, have a full head of beautiful long hair, perfect white teeth, etc? Some drop to almost 70 pounds, and they still aren't dead? I'm just curious, I fear my best friend might have an eating disorder. I haven't seen her eat, and I'm with her all day at school. She always says she had a huge breakfast, or the food at school is all junk so she'll just wait until she gets home to eat. I don't know if she's telling the truth or not. I don't want her to die, or lose her hair, or any of that. One more question, does not eating AUTOMATICALLY make you anorexic? no right?

  1. Well, the not eating must be coupled with an obsession for food (such as talkign about it, cooking for others but not hvaing any yourself) as well as thinking of yourself as being fat even if you are not and usually exercising to lose weight as well. As for ur questions about teh celebs...don't forget, they have stylists and makeup ppl working on them constantly...so for all we know, that could be an awesome wig they have on! Or some sorta hairspray helping their hair shine. And as for dying...it takes a while...a long while for some... If you are worried about ur friend, you may want to accompany her home once or invite her over and see how she eats...talk to her about it and look for other signs such as wot she thinks of her weight. If it looks bad, suggest she receive therapy. Hope this helps...
  2. Who say these things happen over night? They may look fine now but wait until the effect takes it toll. And how do you know it's their hair and teeth? They could be capped teeth and wigs or hair extensions to thicken. These people have stylist to help them. Anorexia is not something you want. If your thinking it's alright really because they look fine, there are long term dangers not just cosmetic ones to consider. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/anorexia_nervosa
  3. Yes, your hair will start to fall out...it may not be dramatic, but when you're taking a shower, it will start to come out in big clumps. It takes a long time, but you will die. These celebs are probably taking strong vitamins and such to keep them alive at the weight they are...you don't know what doctors are doing for them. I guarantee they have extensions or wigs too, and they get dental work all the time. I would be worried about her if I was you. I agree with the first answer, that you should invite her to a meal and see if she eats. If she doesn't, tell her you're concerned and ask her if she would want you to go to a therapist with her. It's anorexia if you're refusing to eat even when you're hungry. It has more of a control and power element to it. If they're not eating food throughout the day, then they are either anorexic or sick or have some intense anxiety. Either way, they need medical help.
  4. Celebs have money, access to the best make up artists and stylists to hide it and they're often photo shopped pictures of them you see in mags. Its good that you have talked to your friend but the fact is I was exactly the same in high school...people's food intake and metabolisms are very different.
  5. because celebs can get extensions, facials, manicures etc to cover up their DIEING bodies.. people DO die from it, celebs too... remember the carpenters? i think her name was karen carpenter, she died of anorexia.
