  1. I think watch them in see what they do like how much they eat in then see if they have it first before you try to help
  2. It is hard to say how much weight one can lose. But if that person does not eat all the time, the weight loss can be drastic. To help the person who is anorexic, you have to ask him or her to see a doctor. Get the correct diagnosis for him/her. He/She may need to go for conscelling and be put under treatment to help her gain some weight. Early treatment is important to recovery and care. 3. Actually it starts really fast... then slows up. Which is why people keep up with it. If you don't eat for a couple of days your body freaks and the pounds drop. After a while your body adjusts and it gets harder to lose the weight. The only real way to tell if someone is anorexic is if they're tired a lot (lack of energy due to no carb intake), report several instances of being dizzy (also from having no energy), and obviously if their weight suddenly decreases...
  4. There are many reason why a person could lose weight, including many other disease states besides anorexia - diabetes, intestinal disorders. If the cause of weight loss is anorexia, the rate of weight loss varies, depending on how much weight the person has to lose and how many calories the person is eating and burning. Eating 500-700 calories a day and working out all the time, the actual person will notice changes in a week or two. Others may take more time to notice, depending on many factors such as clothes. Try suggesting to this person's parents "Does it seem like so-and-so has been losing weight lately?" This person definately will need the help of her family, friends, and a doctor to combat anorexia safely and successfully.
