Mend Your Diet

Am I at a good weight and what is a Detox Diet?

This is pretty hypocritical since I always tell people that it doesn't matter about the way they look. But whatever. I'm a 15 year old girl and I'm 5''6. I weigh about 117 pounds and I'd like to lose a few more. I've battled with anorexia for a a few years now and I'm trying to change. All I ate today was oatmeal. What's a detox diet and is it safe?

  1. You are already at a healthy weight, maybe even underweight when you take your height into account. You are 15 years old, you're still growing, teenagers need more calories than adults. You have to start eating healthy! It seems you have some major body issues and you really need to get help with that. Screw the detox diet....just eat healthy foods during the day and make sure you are getting all the nutrients you need. You are too young to be starving yourself, you're still growing!!
  2. Your BMI is 18.9 (http://www.nhlbisupport.com/bmi/), so you do NOT need to lose any more weight. You are actually at the lower end of the 'healthy' spectrum, meaning that if you go under a BMI of 18.5 you will become underweight and at risk of health problems such as weakness, lathargy, frial bones (which can lead to osteoporosis), infertility, and other, sometimes fatal problems. You should talk to a doctor about your weight problems, he/she will be able to let you know further what you should do to stay healthy.
