Mend Your Diet

Is the Master Clense detox diet harmful ?

im talking about the lemonade diet, where you eat no solid food for 7 days and drink the lemonade mixture and water. I have read some stuff about it and apparently the criticism is that you arent receiving the nutrients that come from your food. So what if you took a multi vitamin with it ? Im not asking from a weight loss point of view, that isnt my aim. i would just like to be healthier and apparently you dont crave processed foods after you finish detoxing but rather fresh healthy food.

  1. Im studying to be a Naturopath and I wouldnt recommend the Lemonade Diet. It is far too restrictive and not nourishing enough. If you are looking for a cleansing diet then the Cabbage soup or Kickstart detox diets are the best for cleansing your system. You will feel awful to start with but if you stick with it, you will feel like a million bucks. Throw in a couple of colonic sessions with it and you will feel like two million bucks. Good Luck
  2. The Master Cleanse diet will likely result in a weight loss, but there is no benefit to your body at all from it. You don't have any toxins that will be cleansed away. There isn't anything hanging out in your colon that a normal diet won't move along down the line. Toxins that have managed to be absorbed by your body won't even be touched by such a thing, it takes chelation chemicals to remove toxins like heavy metals from the body. As far as having cravings for foods afterwards- cravings are creations of your mind- not your colon. If you happen to have a particular love for some unhealthy food or food combo, it will still exist no matter what you eat or don't eat. The whole lemonade diet thing is crazy. You won't get the necessary vitamins or minerals you need while doing it. The mulitvitamin/mineral supplement is just as likely to travel though pretty much undigested and unabsorbed. Your body was designed to absorb nutrients from food, not pills after all. Vitamins are backup insurance, not primary sources. You wouldn't be healthier after such a diet at all, in fact, you would be in starvation mode, and your first real meal would be just as likely to cause you stomach cramps and nausea. You would also likely get diarrhea, as the good bacteria that live in your colon would have died from lack of food. It's just not sensible or sane to do this sort of thing.
  3. No, sweatheart, you won't be harmed with a virtual week-long fast. You must absolutley take your vitamins though. Especially your B vitamins! Your plan is the safest way to cleanse the system...and yeah, it works for getting rid of cravings for processed foods. On day seven, head to the market and pick up all the decadent fruits and vegies you enjoy...and a bit of steak (for the protien, of course) Hope you're well love
