- You gain water weight. But that comes off when you go to the bathroom lol. :]
- A lot of Diet Sodas have this chemical called aspartame. It has been known to cause tumors in rats http://myaspartameexperiment.com/ But don't worry, there is only a danger of tumor if your lifestyle is only based on Diet Sodas. I got my teacher to stop drinking that stuff a few weeks ago with that link ^.^
- Diet coke contains aspartame, which is extremely unhealthy for you. A lot of sugar-free diet products contain this ingredient. If you have time, read the article listed in the resource box, I think you'll find it of interest. Hope this helps
- water weight, and its really bad for just stick with gatorade or water.
- There is a possibility that artificial sweeteners like that used in diet soft drinks (e.g. aspartame) can lead to excessive weight gain. So far this has only been shown in rats, but it is quite possible that it will apply to humans as well. The theory as to how it happens is this... When the rat tastes a sugary food, the sugar stimulates the metabolism and prepares the animal's body for digesting the incoming calories. So, simply put, the animal tastes the calorific sugar, this stimulates the appetite and once the sugar is consumed and digested, the rat's appetite is satiated (satisfied). What this study showed was that if a rat gets 'empty calories' - for example an artificial sweetener that has hardly any calories in it, then the metabolism and appetite is stimulated as before, but it is not satiated afterwards. In other words, the rat will have a bigger appetite than a rat consuming ordinary calorific sugar, and will consequently eat more than necessary to satisfy this hunger. This leads to weight gain, and the effects seem quite significant. Time will tell if this is the same in humans.
