Health insurance after an injury?
I'm currently a student without health insurance. While playing football, I injured my knee. I went to the college student health and found out I have an injured MCL, a bruised bone and a torn meniscus, and the doctor recommends I have an MRI and visit an orthopedic surgeon but without health insurance I can't do these options. First off is with attending a college student health and not a hospital, would the health insurance find out about the injury if I get Health insurance, and if not, how long do I have to wait to wait to get treatment done on my knee that the health insurance would cover?

- If you are applying for health insurance as an individual, they will request all previous medical records and many insurance companies have something called pre-existing condition where they will not cover for any treatment to a pre-existing condition, illness or injury, however most group insurance policies would wave the pre-existing condition and will cover all related or non related claims, the best way to find out is to talk to your insurance agent and ask if the policy he/she is offering has any pre-existing clause in it, and don't lie about your past medical history, once they find out the policy will be terminated for providing false information. Good luck!
- ihovyg is correct about pre-existing claims. I worked in a doctors office for 20 years and seen insurance companies deny people treatment for pre-existing conditions.
- based upon your status,I believe you should find something useful here.http://health-insurance.expert-tip.info/affordable-choice-health-insurance.html
- I can relate. I was in the same situation in my early 20's. Exams, meds, check ups etc.. are expensive, especially for serious injuries. I found this website, www.healthsavings.ourperfectcard.com They are extremely affordable, quick, and no gimmicks. I purchased the program online about 3 years ago and we have saved thousands from the benefits of medical related procedures, Rx and more. I would encourage anyone in your/our situtation to visit the site, and see how they can help. Good Luck. Hope this Helps
